KYOT seeks listener input

Received this email today from KYOT (Smooth Jazz Phoenix)

Dear ihEARDtHAT,

Because you are a KYOT Loyal Listener, I would like to invite you to the station for an informal discussion about what you hear on The Coyote. We will touch on the music, the hosts, KYOT events and contests and most importantly, what you think we might do to improve your listening experience.

I am hosting the discussion on Wednesday, March 21st, 6 PM at the station, 4686 E. Van Buren in Phoenix, just a couple of blocks north of Sky Harbor on 44th Street. We'll give you a quick tour of our shiny new facility then enjoy some food and drinks in our conference facility while we talk about 95.5 KYOT.

If you would like to attend, please send an email to [email protected]. You will receive a confirmation E-mail within the next week, based on space availability. If you can't attend this time, there will be more opportunities in the future.

Thank you for your time and for being a KYOT Loyal Listener. I look forward to talking with you. Your opinions are truly valued.

Have a smooth day!

Smokey Rivers
Program Director, Smooth Jazz 95.5 KYOT

Its nice that they want to invite people in personally to have a real discussion.

Smokey Rivers? He must be the group PD for the CC cluster. Funny..I met him about 20 years ago at a Bobby Poe convention back when radio conventions were fun. He was one of the most brainiac CHR programmers I'd been lucky enough to talk to (besides Buzz Bennett) and I was in CHR at the time too, except that I had a SJ (then CJ) brunch show on Sunday Mornings in a nearby market. Pre VT so I actually had to drive there. Anyway, he was asking me a lot of questions about contemporary jazz, brunch shows, etc. which seemed odd at a rowdy CHR convention but I love to talk about it!

Interesting to see if this is a real discussion or a structured focus group? Go and come back and tell us what happened! I'm especially interested in knowing if the conversation is led in preordained directions (i.e. with leading questions like "how does our station help you relax?" which leads you away from saying that maybe you'd like more than just a relaxation service) or if they actually listen to their listeners and let y'all talk.
