KYOU Ottumwa to add newscasts?

From Northpine.com:

FOX 15 (KYOU-TV Ottumwa) is apparently planning to add a newscast in the near future, with job postings for a news reporter/anchor and executive producer. The station did not respond to an inquiry seeking additional information. KYOU is owned by American Spirit Media and is one of only two stations in the small market, which also includes Kirksville, MO. Its competitor, Sinclair ABC/CBS affiliate KTVO/3.1 (Kirksville, MO), has a long-established news department.

Now if only they would add NBC as an HD subchannel and dump Grit and/or Escape.

Hear, hear! Been saying that for years.

As a refugee of the Hawkeye State and who grew up just scant yards from the mighty  Ottumwa-Kirksville ADI, NBC on 15.2 makes too much sense. Which leads me to believe there's a reason why this hasn't already happened.

Just speculation on my part but what might be a problem is that KYOU's transmitter is actually in the Cedar Rapids - Waterloo ADI and therefore could be subject to the approval of the pre-existing NBC affiliate KWWL. My guess is that KWWL/Quincy Newspapers has said no to NBC on KYOU 15.2.

Further speculation on my part but the reason KYOU's FOX affiliation continues is that it's a grandfathered deal from the early 90s, when FOX practically begged KYOU to locate their 1200' tower somewhat between Ottumwa and Iowa City since the former Cedar Rapids FOX outlet KOCR was such an abject failure.

KOCR as an abject failure. Yep, that's right. When you go to a video rental store, rent movies and play them on the air because you are desperate, that's an abject failure. KOCR did exactly that in the early 1990s when they went under.
