KYSR gets a new logo

Took them long enough to get a real name. "What's this station called?" "98.7 FM." "Doesn't it have a name?" "That is its name."
Now how about changing the call letters? KYSR is a holdover from the "Star" era ("Your StaR").

I always thought it would ultimately hurt them to not have a name and strong identity. If you flipping through stations and you hear a song you like on 98.7 and then they cut to commercial and only say you're listening to 98.7, it really doesn't give an indication of format or what type of music you can expect to hear next. The audience is smart enough to correlate certain names to certain formats and not having one is an invitation for someone to change the dial.

I like Javier Zazueta's comment regarding the new logo: "Pizza Hut called, they want their logo back." :D

KYSR is just as repetitious as KRTH but with a different style of music. Bob Marley, Coldplay, Nirvana, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Blink-182, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam, Foster The People, Mumford & Sons---Ooh, how daring! Hey, "ALT," how about playing CDs by unsigned local bands?

So they can lose, Steve?

KYSR has a Sunday night program that features new music and I'm assuming that it has a lot of listeners. Wouldn't those same listeners enjoy a program that features new and unsigned bands? I say yes.

You're assuming a show on Sunday night has a lot of listeners, Steve?

I'm assuming that people who get tired of hearing the same songs over and over and over would enjoy hearing some different music, whether it's new releases by major artists or CDs by unsigned local bands. KYSR could play songs by local bands and let the listeners vote for their favorites. KYSR could help the best band get a recording contract with a local label. Such a program would bring lots of favorable publicity for the station and would reduce the perception of "cookie-cutter corporate radio."

KROQ's branding always seems to me like they want to be the station for 'bros', while more recently I feel like 98-7 tries to be more the 'hipster' station.
