I would like to get your opinions on the flood coverage on KYW 1060 AM today?

What's wrong with him asking what others thought of the coverage??

We can all see you have your favorites, now if I wrote the original post you would have some smart remark about it, [EDIT].

[EDIT=name calling/inflamtory]

Hold up a second [EDIT] if it was a vlaid question about news or weather coverage.. i wouldn't care who wrote it or what stayion.

but if it's a racially biased slamfest, then i care

[EDIT=name calling/inflamtory...mod note: Paul, spelling? please. thanks.]

Julius, you can't win. You get slammed when you give an opinion. You get slammed when you ask a question.

It was typical KYW. Every time there is weather they send two - three - four people out in SUVs with cellphones to report LIVE. Plus, of course, some AccuWeather guy up in State College. Same thing every news cycle. "I'm standing at _______ and the (river is rising)(snow is falling) and people here are (worried)(evacuating)(coping bravely)." The only man bites dog moment here is "Community Affairs Reporter" Karen Phillips actually did something close to a news story instead of her usual do-gooder puff piece. Of course, she still sounded like they caught her by surprise and came to her live in mid-bagel.

Maybe the most telling comment on KYW's coverage is the lack of opinion about it here; radio news really has become irrelevant.

Julius, what do you think?

i was very disappointed in the traffic coverage on my way to the ben franklin. i assumed that the admiral wilson blvd would be flooded but on my way there, i listened to 3 traffic reports and it wasn't mentioned. then i came upon a closed ramp and 10,000 cars. ;0)

hmmm, what makes you think this was racially motivated? I thought it was a valid response (vlaid???) (what's on your mind) on radio station (stayion) (and your on radio.....at least you didn't spell it like raydio as in Ray Parker Jr. ) KYW.
Oh by the way....... what are your thoughts on that.

Fred/Mike: I don't think he has an opinion. As usual, he's posting just for the sake of posting. Nobody else really cares about KYW's flood coverage. There's only so much you can say on the radio about flooding you can't even see through the radio. As far as Julius getting "slammed" all the time: he asks a question, but doesn't provide his own opinions on the situation. When he does give an opinion about something, he has no proven facts to back up his opinions of a certain station. He just makes these outlandish claims and has nothing to back it up with. That's what's annoying.

Julius: concerning the station's flood coverage: what does you think? Why or why not? I don't have an opinion myself, because I didn't listen. I can't always get KYW up here during the nighttime hours...or I would provide my opinion.

Timik: this is typical of the traffic service they use. The same thing happens on the Noo Yawk news stations too. When traveling between New England and the Philadelphia area, I often listen to WINS and WCBS for traffic reports. I could be sitting in a ten mile long backup...and neither station talks about it. They promote their "tipline" phone numbers (I think it's a good idea to give listeners a chance to call in traffic information). I have even called in information about backups I sit in or accidents I come across...and it's very rare they even put the information on the air.

Paul, RockIntern, apco: There were no racially motivated posts made in this thread. Yes, RockIntern goes overboard sometimes, but he was tame this time. I just fail to understand why Paul is so interested in the Philadelphia area all of a sudden, when he's living in East Bumble F*ck, North Dakota...and as far as I know, has no ties to the area. I care about the region, because I grew up in Delaware, listening to Delaware and Philadelphia radio stations.

Rob: You got that right! You hit the nail right on the head. He's perfect for those fools who run that show.

I lived 20 or 25 mintues from Philadelphia several years ago for 2 years....

I think that 1060 did an OK job with the flood coverage.
Why? Be specific. Shawn does have a point. It's like pulling teeth sometimes to get you to really say something beyond these blanket good/bad statements.

I didn't listen to it enough for a detailed opinion on KYW

Julius: If you didn't listen enough to ascertain an opinion, why bring up this subject in the first place? If you didn't listen enough, why do you even care about KYW's flood coverage? I'm glad to see other people (specifically, Fred/Mike) are beginning to publicly agree with me on the topic of your vague "good station vs. bad station" opinions...with no facts to back up your opinions.

Once again, it's proven that Julius posts just for the sake of posting, and for attention.

All right I thought the flood coverage was OK. The station did its job and letting people know what the conditions are in the region, providing traffic and weather reports. KYW is good with some things and this is one of them. KYW is a 50/50 station. Half good with some things, half bad with others like making mistakes with news coverage, errors on news stories, etc.
