KYW 1060 AM not broadcasting statements/press conferences anymore

For some reason since KYW 1060 has moved, the station hasn't broadcasted any press conferences or statements live for some reason. 2 Examples, 1. the station didn't broadcast the statement by President Bush about the US attorneys being fired and today, John Edwards held a press conference with his wife to announce that his wife's cancer has returned and the campaign to continue. I would like to know did the station forget to install equipment to broadcast live feeds for PC's etc. and thus can't broadcast the PC's live. Every other news stations aired these events, but not KYW. The same thing also is happening to WPHT, WIP in their new studios. CBS Radio really messed up I think with their Philadelphia cluster. They better get this fixed now

That's a good question, Julius. Although I doubt that they just "forgot" to install equipment, both examples you give are certainly worthy of being carried live and in line with other live broadcasts in the past. Could it be a shift in policy at KYW??

I think its really time to let CBS Radio know what is really going on with 1060 AM because I have had enough with this radio station. The entire format is bad, really bad even though the ratings don't show it. CBS RADIO

Translation: If it ain't broke, why fix it?

Julius, my advice: Move to Washington, and start listening to WTWP-AM and FM (Washington Post Radio). They carry ALL the press conferences you've mentioned, and since it is a newsradio format, your sense of scheduling is pretty much in line with what they have. Although be forewarned: 1) They are the flagship station of Nationals baseball, and so if there is a press conference conflicting with a baseball game, I'm sure the Nats get primary consideration, and 2) the hosts/guests have a tendency to say the word "clearly" 3 to 5 times per hour.

The fact is no one is willing to speak out about how bad KYW is and tell CBS radio about it, that's why changes haven't been made to the station in years. It sounds old and tired and needs to be updated.

could they just not have the microwave dish on the roof yet..
Why they need that and is that also the case at 2 Bala plaza where WOGL/WPHT/WIP are located?

Usually long winded remotes or speechs, if originated by the station thats airing them... are done on a Marti unit, which is near FM quality and works via radio waves. One needs a dish/antenna somewhat elevated for it to work properly.

Thats the case with any radio station or show who wants to do remotes professionally..

I see, how could KYW not install that yet. That should have been installed days before the station moved, if that is the case? I don't know for sure what is going on at 1060 AM so please don't take the title of this thread to the bank because I don't know for sure what is happening at the station. MODS, please add a question mark to the title of this thread. Thanks

I don't know why WIP would've broadcasted any of those PC's mentiioned anyway, however I did hear them annouce today, that Andy Reid's PC will be carried live on the air, so WIP is still doing it.

I wasn't talking about that. I was talking about if WIP has to carry a sports related PC, but they use the CSN Philly over the air cable signal to broadcast the PC's and I don't think via a raw feed for channel 3 their sister station or 6, 10 or 29.

going back to the kyw press conference part of this topic , not all of the links to the new studio are not operational yet .. not all circuit rearrangements are done yet ....

I'm shocked by this. Looks like the station moved to the new studios a few weeks too early. They should have waited until everything equipment wise, etc is installed like before moving to the new location. When do you expect everything at the new studio to be finally operating?

Well, Rome wasn't built in a day... Neither was Tony Bruno...

My whole point is why didn't the CBS Philly radio stations that moved to their new studios, 2 bala and 4th and Market had EVERYTHING installed before moving in so the stations can be able to carry a press conference or other events LIVE as it is happening. CBS Radio Philadelphia cluster or CBS Radio in NY better correct this problem with the satellite feeds for PCs, other events, etc for the 5 philly radio stations now for the Philly stations because this is inexcusable that this happened and happened for so long especially on WPHT and WIP since 2005.

Julius,
they just spent millions on the move for all 4 stations. they are going to recycle some equipment. this may involve the live remote equipment. it will take time, just like everything does. chill out.

Julius, with all due respect, you're showing a lack of understanding about how this business works. You obviously have a vendetta against KYW Newsradio, which has done a good job for a long time. Moving stations is no small task. There are always bugs to iron out after such a move.

Julius,

The news conferences come from the same sources as the sound bites they use: network satellite feeds. So they obviously have the equipment and are using it. The John Edwards campaign event yesterday was supposed to start at noon and didn't get underway for at least 15 minutes after that. And it was just a rambling media event (no insult intended to Mr. and Mrs. Edwards - my prayers go out to them) but it was basically a campaign rally. No reason to give free publicity to one candidate. And it was during their reporter's roundup program, which would be their first priority.

The presidential speech you refer to was also a non-event. No reason to carry it. All the average listener wants is a re-cap when its over. As Joe Friday would say: "Just the facts ma'm."

And finally, as a person who tunes in KYW several times every day, 7 days a week, I get truely sick and tired of your constant ravings about KYW being a bad station. They are popular because they do a GOOD job. They have evolved with the times to be what listeners want from a news station in the 21st century. They are a good station! If I were ever to write to CBS, it would be to congratulate them on the fine job done by KYW and WINS.

I couldn't agree more. I have lived in cities with no all news station. I think KYW does a great job. Why don't take some time to "call out" the good things they do? They do a fine job, and that's the opinion of a professional broadcaster.

That would be "why don't you take some time". Broadcaster yes, proofreader, no.
