KYW announcer

Who was that guy who does the legal ID for KYW at the top-of-the-hour and at :30 when he says "The Newswatch never starts..."? I need to know since they always use the other announcer for most promos.

The announcer have been doing this for years, but it was used during the Westinghouse era.

That would be Dick Covington. He passed a couple years back. He was one of the originals when KYW went all news all the time 40 years ago.

The other guy who does all of the image stuff is Sean Caldwell. He does voice work for station all across the country. Locally the other station he does is WAYV down the NJ shore. He may do another locally as well, I'm not sure.

WOW and I always thought the line was "The Newswatch Never STOPS"
at least On WINS a group W westinghouse station.??????
when it was owned by westinghouse.

I think the voice guy does The Word FM in Sellersville, too.

By the way, there's a little squib in today's paper about KYW's top-of-the-hour ID. Seems they didn't have a recording of Dick Covington doing the ID and saying "a CBS radio station", so they went into the archives, found him saying "CBS radio" and did a little editing magic....

From Michael Klein this morning

When Viacom Inc. changed the name of its radio group from Infinity to CBS a few weeks back, KYW-AM (1060) had to tweak its familiar ID, in which announcer Dick Covington begins: "This... is... Newsradio." You might think such a change would be a challenge because the golden-piped Covington died in March 2004. Program director Steve Butler had an out. Before Infinity took over in the late 1990s, the station owner briefly went by "CBS." A Covington "CBS Radio" clip was found in the archives, and an engineer laid the music over it.

Many will argue for tradition, but why not just have Sean Caldwell, the station's main announcer, do the ID instead?<P ID="signature">______________
