Reporting power outages
I've always been mystified by the obligatory power outage reports after a storm. Unless the outages are widespread (and worth reporting as such), they are useless. If your power is out, you don't need to be told that it's out. If it isn't out, are you supposed to take some sadistic pleasure in hearing about other people's misery? If not, then the information is a waste of time. Here's another point: The numbers themselves are pretty meaningless (count how many times reporters confuse "people" with "customers" when they talk about the extent of the outages; if reporters don't even know why this is incorrect, why bother reporting the figure?). FYI: Customers refers to the number of addresses, not the number of people.
