KYW on WYSP HD-2

I'm not one to break news, so i guess its common knowlwdge that KYW is broadcasting on WYSP's HD-2 signal (just heard a promo for it). Aren't they already in AM HD? Is it that much better to be "cd-quality" as opposed to "fm-quality"? Shame WYSP couldn't do some alternative music programming on there (real alternative, something harder [always looking out for you RWS]).

WYSP-HD2 has a better signal than KYW. KYW has huge nulls throughout South Jersey, for example.

Are they running spots? I thought you can't run spots on HD yet.

I tuned in and heard this last night. It was baffling.

If you have an HD Radio, then that means you can already get KYW loud and clear. It's not additional programming if you can already find it on the AM dial. Why is this enticing to people who are on the fence about purchasing an HD radio?

Members of the HD Alliance agreed to run no spots, but there is no government restriction and you may run spots if you like.

The HD coverage of the FM is grater than the coverage of KYW on AM in some directions... so the HD channel adds to KYW's total coverage and is unique for those who can not get it well on AM.

I just turned on KYW on 94.1-2. It sounds great. Did they kill they kill WYSP-2 that was online now that 'YSP "rocks" again?

1060AM sounds good to but, I only have HD radio at home. They can turn off the HD on 1060AM now so that KYW sounds better in analog AM. Also, if I ever get an HD radio in my car, I won't have to worry about power line killing a traffic report on the 2s. Traffic on the 2s on YSP-2. There are road in South Jersey (Camden County) where KYW won't come in at all under power lines.

Will CBS put WPHT on 98.1-2?

Yes, the internet-only "rock stream" was previously found at wysp.com, which now just redirects to 94wysp.com.

The reason to put KYW on WYSP HD-2 is to make it available to people who are inside buildings (particularly metal ones) into which FM signals will travel but AM signals will not. CBS is doing the same thing in New York, with WINS broadcast on WWFS's (formerly WNEW) HD-2.

I think it would make more sense for WYSP to put something else on HD2 and run KYW as WYSP HD-3. HD2s can be in stereo, but HD-3s cannot.

Has anyone heard the KYW legal ID since CBS started doing this? Do they acknowledge it? What does it say?

About the spots, that was a problem in DC. Clear Channel was putting their poor-signaled AM talk stations on HD-3s (primarily conservative WTNT on a country station, and progressive talk WWRC on an AC station). The other broadcasters objected and they stopped.

They have a new legal ID right before the hour mentioning WYSP HD 2 Philadelphia after KYW and KYW HD Philadelphia

how about this? take your laptop put it in your car and listen to kyw on line?

Soon...I see the WiMax antennas going up all over the place.

HD-2 on FM used for N/T programs is the perfect entre to the HD thing-on FM at least. They should just scuttle HD-AM and go with this.

Oh man, I can't WAIT for WiMax. When I'm sick of listening to WMMR, WRFF, or WYSP, I'll be able to create my own custom station on Pandora and Last.fm and listen to that while I'm in the car. It's going to kick the [EXPLETIVE] out of HD Radio and Satellite.
