KYXY slide, KSON rise and KOGO goes

So is KYXY's slide as bad in its core numbers at it is is total ratings: http://www.radio-info.com/markets/san-diego

KSON is pulling a 6.9, so Clear Channel's replacing country with KOGO on was a good move for Lincoln Financial, but how does KOGO-FM's 2.8 compare with what the AM was doing a year ago with the Hedgecock show? It certainly doesn't look like KFMB-FM got any bounce from Roger.

And KBZT doesn't seem to have gotten a bounce from the departure of Mikey two months ago (talk about a total disappearance - they must be paying great money to keep quiet).

And KBZT lost the chance to go CHR... Perhaps they'll go more mainstream and rebrand as The Buzz (good call letters for it) or go all 90's. XHRM is still high but has been steadily declining in the last 3 books. Maybe they should go go Rythmic AC? Is KSIQ not on there?

Here's the real story: XEPRS is the top-rated AM...ahead of KFMB. Been 40 years or more since that happened (beating KFMB).

Energy 103.7 taking a bite out of 933. I also look at the CUME and find the numbers steady for KyXy; but the points are down nearly a share.

There's no quality talk shows in San Diego anymore (love you LaDona) and there must be a glitch as KFI, and KNX do not show. KFI usually bounces in at a 2 and KNX in the mid 1's. Interesting that only KOGO-FM is reported.

Salem may have turned off their PPMs; which really is not a lost cause.

I have noticed that since the shift to listing subscribers only that stations who show up in multiple markets seem to appear only in their home market.

If KOGO told Arbitron to list KOGO as a full simulcast of KOGO-FM, then everything shows up as KOGO-FM.

That explains the tens of people who listen to KECR.

KHTS was flat in key demos ... where is 103.7 taking their bite Chris?

John: Right. My understanding is that if you want your station to appear in a market, you have to subscribe in that market. So KFI and KNX would have to subscribe to the San Diego PPMs to show up...and there's no benefit to that (especially when balanced against the cost of doing so).

What I didn't notice last night was that all the once-mighty Kuf-Mub can claim to beat is three Tijuana FMs en Espanol, a college jazz station and KLSD. Very sad when you consider what KFMB-AM once was...and for a long, long run.

You know without seeing the breakdown in the key demos that KFMB-AM sells, it is unlikely that any changes will be made at KFMB. From what I understand the 2 KFMB stations are the second highest billing stations in the market (behind Clear Channel's 7 stations !). Obviously they are making money so I dont see KFMB doing anything different until money is lost!

I do have to agree with Chris that there are no local talk shows in San Diego (besides DSC and yes that is a talk show) that is worth listening to. I love LaDona too, but she needs a decent producer, and some real production. Her show is produced like it's on KCR. I wonder how long Chip and Merrill have before CC figures out how bad they are?

Point taken; I made the conclusion based on their rankings not CUME.

The FM is around 4th or 5th in THE sales demo, but the AM is not in the top 20. The new Arbitron restrictions prevent being any more specific than a generalization.

KFMB-FM is 7th in billing for last year, behind KOGO, KLNV, KGB, KHTS, KSON and KMYI. The AM is in a three way tie for 12th with KLQV and XHTZ.

The FM revenue has growth potential, but the AM is in danger of losing even more billings ground; it is already off about 45% from its levels of 7 or 8 years ago while the market as a whole is off about 30%.

Within the last ten years, KOGO used to have a great production staff (producers & directors) but they've all quit or have been fired.
