KYYS changing formats

I noticed there wasn't a public outcry this time around.

Unless I hear some music newer than 1996, I'm reluctant to call it Adult Alternative, even though that is the image the Boulevard projects.  Now if they would just give away some Boulevard Pale Ale ...

Wow...I'm really sorry to hear this KC. I grew up just osuth of KC and remember listening to KY 102 from the start in the late 70s. My nephews first words were "KY 102 we rock Kansas City"

I've heard a few songs newer than '96 listening online, and, honestly, it doesn't sound too bad. However, I think I'd prefer my local BXR. At least so far, there hasn't been the outcry there was 10 years ago when we shared airchecks of the switch and the hours before and after, Rob. Apparently, the new calls will be KBLV. No word yet on what happens to the KYYS calls.

I also find it funny that I talked with one of the 99.7 KY staff members right after it was resurrected from the dead 10 years ago. I asked about who to send a tape for weekends. I was told my weekend overnights at a country station in Tulsa a few years earlier wouldn't even make me qualified enough to be a board-op, let alone a jock, there. I was also told that I'd never find myself back in radio. I find it kind of funny that person is no longer there, and I'm still doing radio, even if it's part-time in a small market. However, I also have to say that I don't really hold a grudge toward that person and really do feel badly about what's happened. In fact, I would hire every former KY jock, including that individual, if I were in a position to do so.

I agree with TheRob, this isn't Adult Alternative, or AAA since there is little to no new music, and little music from the last ten years.

Maybe Adult Rock would be a more fitting description.

Lemme see...hold down the laughter, but - okay - if I scrounge up enough money to buy a proper website, invest time and some money into getting the proper paperwork filed with the FCC, I may be able to get the KYYS calls for a station? That could be well worth looking into for anything within spitting distance of the farthest edge of either of the two signals that previously used those call letters.

Entercom parked the KYYS calls on their Hispanic station (1250 AM I believe). I've got a rock signal down I-35 an hour or so that I woulda LOVED to snag those calls for.
