KYYT (Y-102) The Dalles

I see as of last week Cole Malcolm has been dismissed from Y102. He was the chief engineer and also did a live 'classic' country show every Sunday from 7p-10p. Very sad day for The Dalles.

Cole had started this station many years ago and had sold it about 7 years ago, but remained employed. The owner was fairly easy to get along with, but he recently brought in the '400 pound gorilla' named Marshall to shake things up. So much for a familier voice on the air. Only hope they keep Kevin Malcolm on the air.

Wow! That is a bit of a surprise....Cole has one of the best sets of ears in the N.W. when it comes to making stations sound good and he's a good guy....used to do production for his station when he owned Y102...now I'm doing stuff for the Bi-Coastal cluster. That has to be odd...selling a station to someone, then getting let go a number of years later...YIKES! Goofy biz we be in, eh?

Crazy for sure! I first met Cole when he was doing engineer work for KQIK/Lakeview in 1994. I've shared some wonderful memories traveling with him to NAB shows and even filling in on his "classic" country show. You're right, he has one of the BEST ears in the business when comes to making a station sound good.

I first met Cole Malcolm when Michael Julian Lewis heard about a new AM station in Goldendale and sent me up there to check it out. There, I found a trailer with a single tower and radials lying on the ground. Inside, was Cole operating a turntable. The next thing I knew, he had put me to work sequeing records. I later found out that he was the son of my choir instructor at MHCC!
