Driving around today channel surfing and discovered that KYZZ-FM had switched formats from CHR/Rhythmic to Oldies/Classic Hits. They are positioning themselves as Z97.9, playing the greatest hits of the 60's and 70's. They are simulcasting with KIDD-AM. That frequency has been through more format changes....

Smart move....They couldn't compete with KDON and there's a format hole in that market for the format. I think it will work in that area!

Oldies/Classic Hits is cleaning up in many of the larger markets! (KRTH, KOOL, The Walrus, WCBS, Q105, KOLA)

Question is, who will do it in the Bay? It's gotta be only a matter of time??

Spent 3 years at KDON as Production Director/Weekends(1997-2000), stations have tried to compete but have failed.

Oldies/Classic Hits is a great move and it has worked in the market; ironically enough 97.9 was oldies/classic hits under Wolfhouse Radio (K-Hits 97.9) before the owners gave up it and went to the Exa presentation (after the GM and PD left, I was the last one there to mind the store until the format change). The problem is the frequency and signal coverage; great in the Salinas Valley but on the Monterey Peninsula, its weak.
