KZAP on KDVS !!!

Today (November 8, 2012) through Saturday morning at 6:00 AM, UCD's KDVS is re-creating vintage free-form era KZAP, complete with music and air talent from the era of 1968 through 1978.

So far, I have heard Ed Fong playing the album tracks of the era, along with an old commercial for a 1977 Frank Zappa Concert at the Memorial Auditorium to celebrate the station's 9th birthday. The late great Gordo did the voiceover for the commercial. Dennis Newhall, Tom Cale, Don Wright, Jeff Hughson and many others will be doing a shift.

If you have the time, give it a listen. It will be well worth your while !!!

Yeah, this is a celebration of KZAP's first decade. I would love to hear it, but I tried to listen on-line and it's an archaic setup. made it darn near impossible.

Damn!! Looked at this too late to tune in. I wasn't around for the KZAP of this era, but I can tell you that Travus T Hipp passed away earlier this year. He was on KVMR every morning right up until his death.

Son of a ...... I missed it! KZAP was the reason I have a wide range of musical tastes. I remember in high school hearing Emmy Lou Harris segue into japanese orchestral music, Pink Floyd into Miles Davis into live Cream.
