For you radiophiles that want to check it out. Interviews with some of the staff through the years including Charlie Weiss and Bob Keller, and the first Gm Edd Fitzgerald. Stream it at capradio.org if you're at work. It's in honor of the 40th reunion this weekend.

A very cool interview, in case you missed it. What we all wished radio could be like today, and a great trip back to when radio was cool.

That was a good (but short) segment. I've worked with Charlie at KYMX in the early 90's and at Shadow Traffic (now Metro) late 90's. Nice to hear their stories, most of which I remember. They talked about the call letter selection. Seems back then someone on the air said KHIP was also an option, but they felt it was too obvious. Other names I remember...Marla, Jock Church, Travis T Hipp, Captain Carrot (Cary Nosler) etc.

KZAP was the soundtrack to our lives in the late 60's and into the 70's. I was exposed to such a wide variety of music that familiarized me with different things and allowed me to enjoy a lot of genres. I mean, I love AC/DC, but you gotta have more in your musical diet!

Since I live in LA I couldn't get it, but Capitol Public Radio's website has a podcast you can download. It was pretty cool, Charlie sounded the same as when I was working with him at ZAP in 1979, the beginning of the corporate Burkhart/Abrams format era. Would've been nice to hear from Fred Gaines, Marla, Gordo and the many others that brought the 1970's era KZAP to life. Have to agree that it was too short a segment, only about 20 minutes. Worse for me, I had to miss the reunion, I couldn't get away. I'll have to email Dennis Newhall to see how it went.

The reunion was a blast. A lot of the late 70's early 80's folksmade it including Bob Galli (who was just let go in Buffalo on Wednesday), Bob Keller, Brad Lee Brenner, Chris Davis, Fuzzy Bill, Charlie Weiss, Cat Coffee, Val Miller, Kent Randles, Fred Hoffman, Roger Dhesi, Gordo, and even Tony Cox popped by and had everyone sign his Hometown 2 album. Lot of photos, great stories, and joints were shared out on the veranda of Randy Paragary's new bar Social. Just like old times.

I don't think Ace and Helen made it. Tom Cale, Bill Prescott, and and a few others didn't make it either. Travis is spending some time right now in the county "hotel" for 14 special flowers that he didn't have a permit for. There is a defense fund set up for him, if you'd like to pitch it.
