KZBJ??

I know this isnt realy for Houston board, but its a Houston feed, I noticed in the FCC data about KZBJ, that must be the one that I am getting maybe getting some feeds from K208DK, but how will that effect KACC? Expecailly in the skips I would think that was a bad planning on the FCC part, I may be wrong though, but looks like thats to close and not far enough apart. it cuts right through Missouri City. in the Distant map.

jras 20, I commute from north Houston to Rosenberg quite often. I have been very successful in recieving the KACC signal with no interference from KZBJ or any other signal, for that matter. Of course the farther north of 610 you get, the weaker the signal from KACC is, but once you are heading down 59 going southbound, the signal is pretty good, with only brief moments of static.

Does anyone know how KZBJ simalcasts KSBJ? Is it by Satellite or antenna? It seems to be about a secound off from KXBJ in Victoria.

KXBJ is via Satelite....KZBJ may be fed ia ISDN or something else...I'll see if I can find out from George.

Cool it would be interesting to see how they transmitte it, I think now KMAT transmitts KHCB through Satellite now, I think they use to do it through air, last time I saw the radio station they took down the antenna. looks like they have a Satellite up now.

KZBJ 89.5 Bay City receives KSBJ 89.3 Houston via Satellite also per their Authorization for License, which waived 73.1125 {Station Main Studio Location}.

J, you were correct about KZBJ being close to KACC 89.7 Alvin. KACC and KZBJ are only 81km distant from each other and they are short spaced by 24.9km. In fact KZBJ is short spaced to at least six stations. KTLZ 89.9 Cuero by far the shortest spaced of all stations. The 54dbu signal is on the opposite side of KTLZ's antenna and the signal cuts through Cuero. KZBJ shows KTLZ as being directional but the FCC shows KTLZ as non directional and KZBJ sends nearly 100% of their 35kW towards KTLZ (the pattern shows ~0.950 of the signal}. KACC 89.7 Alvin is short spaced by 24.9km; KXBJ 89.3 Victoria short spaced by 13.8km; KSBJ 89.3 Houston 12.2km short spaced; KMFA 89.5 Austin 5.7km short spaced and KLUX 89.5 Robstown-Corpus Christi short spaced by 1.77km.

KZBJ is using a directional pattern with the deepest null at 70 degrees {KACC is at 69.66 degrees and a power of 5.3kW towards KACC. All stations except KMFA Austin have at least a slight null towards them. With KMFA being 218.3km from KZBJ, I guess the 5.7km short spacing is of no concern. I don't personally think it will make any difference in either stations coverage or reception.

KZBJ has a null in the direction of all metro Houston starting at zero degrees and running to 130 degrees and doubt that KZBJ even in strong tropo conditions will have much if any effect on KSBJ 89.3 or KACC 89.7.

This certainly places any kind of upgrade that KACC msy have ever had in the future out of the question. KACC is so locked in by stations, I doubt they could increase power by one watt. It's too bad that KACC was unable to upgrade to a Class C3 or C2 a some years ago and put a much stronger signal into the City of Houston, although I get better reception from KACC than I do from KIOL 103.7 when driving around metro Houston with the current KACC signal.

I don't know what is with KIOL's signal, but the last few weeks the signal has been as bad as KFNC 97.5, if not worse, when driving around. I know there has been tropo conditions lately again, but with few exceptions I am not picking up another station, just constant drop out of the KIOL signal or a signal on par with the Senior Road tower stations {KHMX, KODA, etc} when I am driving to Dallas and am up around Buffalo on I-45, or better half way to Dallas. A scan of the dial shows the other stations in the Devers area with the usual or better signal.

If they are using the Sat feed that Victoria is using, I dont understand why they would be a second off; they should be the same...I remember George saying he was planning KZBJ to be digital capable from the ground up....(why not?)....could be that is the reason they have an extra second of delay....but now I am curious too ;)

interesting though, I thought I was getting K208DK all that time untill I looked into the latest FCC data base for Bay City, Bay city stations realy travel well through Lavaca county, I never realy had any problems with any of them. Of course the big powerhouse one would be KIOX. How do they transmitte XO radio KQQK is it ISDN? It sure doesnt sound very well the last time I listened to it.
