KZEP in Mono

The last couple of weeks, I have been pulling in a KZEP signal in Mono. How long have they been broadcasting in Mono and how long will this last? KRPT, KLEY, KTXX, and KRIO broadcast in mono (I've heard that's because of signal limitations in the San Antonio metro, but with an antenna on the Tower of the Americas, KZEP should not have a limited signal in the San Antonio area. I was in Little Rock this week and noticed KHKN was also in mono. Is this a trend or will Stereo return shortly for all stations mentioned?

KSRX has been doing antenna work so all three stations on the Tower have to switch to their auxilary sites while the work is being done. KZEP's aux transmitter is mono.

What's the 3rd station on the tower? I wonder if KZEP is angry about using an aux transmitter.

KQXT

Evidently KZEP isn't too angry. They didn't spend the money on a stereo encoder equipped processor for the aux.

Are they working up to HD for KQXT? I heard they were broadcasting in HD but wondered if it was realy launched yet, I have noticed them very weak up here for the last 2 weeks, I'm 30 miles south of Austin, but have a air antenna up 20 or so feet so I can pull in most all of San antonio radio like it was local as well as Austin.

According to their website they are but I can't imagine that their backup is also HD. Have you ever gone into Best Buy and asked for HD radio? After convincing the guy I wasn't talking about satellite all I got was a blank stare. I really was hoping to hear a demo. If you listen for the hash it sounds like KTSA and KRDY are now HD with WOAI and I swear that about a month ago KONO 860 had the hash and was exactly 8 seconds behind KONO-FM. It's since been turned off but I'm sure that I wasn't dreaming that. On FM you can definitly hear hash around KJ97 on 97.1 and 97.5.

I do believe kono 860 was in HD also, I would like to get HD for my home radio, but I dont believe those were released yet. I dont believe them people at Best buy realy know what they are doing, I asked about Satellite radio a while back and they didnt know much about it, so I had to learn on my own about it. I think also KHFI, KASE, KPEZ are all in HD in Austin as well. I hear the noise in the background on one below the station, wonder why its just Clear channel(FM)is doing this? They are acually the only ones around also that uses RDS.<P ID="signature">______________
