KZEP Now in HD

To bad Austin doesn't take more time to get HD Radio fixed. KASE is off, KDHT is messing up, KHFI is not as strong as the others. I don't understand Austin HD, its like they don't even want it to work.

It's HD in general...the system itself is screwy and the engineers are stretched so thinly in this market that they can't afford the time to put any energy into a signal that the (approximately) 12 HD radio owners in Austin may or may not be listening to.

So, lots and lots of fighting among the jox at KZEP....who will be the first to go? ???

Just the bit I've been listening to, they sound better. Who's the guy they have doing PM drive? Wolf? The boys got some pipes, sounds good IMHO.

Did HD Radio ever give out a number of how many radios are actually sold? That'd be interesting to find out...

I think they're willing to talk about the number shipped, but not the number actually sold. So how dead is HD radio? I think that says it all.

No. It is NOT "high def". It's hybridized digital signal, known as IBOC. No, I'm not being pissy about it, I just HATE hearing that stuff called "High Def"! ;D

He does make a point. The stations always refer to HD Radio. They never say what it means which leaves it to the listeners to assume it's High Definition just like HDTV. And that's what they hope you will think.

"Quite honestly, it doesn't stand for anything," said Peter Ferrera, president and CEO of the HD Digital Radio Alliance. "The concept was somewhat of a steal from HD television, where viewers know it means better quality."

But the FCC will tell you the HD in HD Radio stands for Hybrid Digital which allows for simultaneous analog and digital broadcasting.

Thank you Fred, I appreciate that!

I just loathe it when the so-called HD Radio brigade tries to claim better sound quality, as their silly little boxes flip back and forth between analog and digital. They stole the "HD" concept from TV and are using it to sell this abortive system.

Oh yea....I guess I am somewhat of a geek! ;D
