KZEY-AM 690 Tyler

Anybody in the Tyler area know the status of KZEY? Is it on-air?

Is there still a studio facility anywhere? Public file?

Assuming it's off, is anybody willing to sign an affidavit stating that they tried to listen to it and it was not there?

I'm putting some legal material together to use in my fight with Jerry Russell and would appreciate any help in ridding the broadcast industry of this scum bag.

You can contact me directly at [email protected].

Thanks.

LF

Go for it, Larry.

I don't have much to contribute that hasn't been covered in previous threads (e.g., that there's no studio and the transmitter land was sold at auction). The last time I heard KZEY was back in the summer of 2005. The modulation was way down and it sounded like they were running very low power. There were no spots, no jocks, no ID's.

Good luck finding him. He's probably hiding in some undisclosed location. The only way to serve him papers is to happen upon an unsuspecting employee who just happened to be at the office. That being the case, the poor employee signs his or her death warrant by being served on behalf of the company, and Russell fails to appear in court, saying he was "not properly served."

Larry, I wish you the best, but if it takes the FCC 20+ years to shut down KFCC (an AM station that lost its license in SE Texas due to moving their tower out of range of their city of license), they'll never bow up on Russell. It's probably be best for your sanity if you just let it go.

Oh, there is always the option of watching the filings and opposing any (however remotely possible) acquisitions he may attempt (notifying prospective sellers of his history, filing protests with the FCC), but overall, I think his wave of destruction is over.

On the other hand, you've been around radio longer than I have... maybe you'll have a better idea of how to win.

Again, hope all goes well.

Wherever he (Russell) is, Jerry Hanszen apparently got him to come out of hiding long enough to sell KWRD (Henderson, TX) to Hanszen Broadcasting.

Of 'course... He had the opportunity to cash out of one of his ventures. Anytime you wave some green, he'll show up. As soon as he gets the $$$, he dissappears as quickly as he appeared.

I am the terror that quacks in the night.... I am the wrong number at 2 in the morning.

The KWRD sale is pending, it has not been finalized.

True, but.....

It was enough to bring him out of hiding. ;D

Seriously, good luck in whatever you're pursuing with er, against him. He needs to cash out and go sit on the beach somewhere.

If you do get a court date, let me know, because I would like to be there. I would gladly sacrifice some vacation time to come see him get his just desserts. He destroyed ONE of the first all-black music radio stations, not only in the state of Texas, but in the whole USA, with KZEY. Every time I go back up to Tyler or Longview, I tune it in just to see if they are back on. I want to cry when I don't hear it. Last time I was there, a station from Kansas was DX'ing on the signal.

I cannot believe this low-life is not in jail. I may e-mal you LF and tell you a few other things that are best not said on here. It will take me a few days, but I will try to do so, probably Thursday or Friday of this coming week.

I do wish you all the luck in the world.

Save the vacation time, Snoman. Russell usually appears in court when he's the one doing the suing, rarely when he's being sued.

Default judgment for Fuss that never gets paid.

I don't know, Musicsweep. Perhaps maybe his heritage-destruction days may be far from over, though I could be wrong. Let's face it, he's the Osama bin Laden no one, not even the former Arkansas (Pine Bluff) and Mississippi (Greenville/Cleveland) (in which he literally molested them deep into the ground) owners will NEVER catch.

So with that note, good luck, Larry. Hope that there would be some closure to all of his (Jerry Russell) evil doings. perhaps real radio can be restored to its rightful place in its respectful cities.

I remembered when I interviewed with Matt Walker (RIP :( ), I met Russell, and Matt introduced me. And, I said, "Nice to meet you, Jerry." And, he kind of gave me a puzzled looked. Matt looked like he saw a ghost, and said when we left his office, "He prefers to be called Mr. Russell." I told Matt, "You've got to be kidding me?!" Needless to say, I turned down the job. I saw the writing on the wall. I saw Jerry a few months later at the ET Fair in Tyler, when I was working at KLTV. I told him, "Good to see you again Jerry." He just kind of looked disgruntled and said, "yeah." ;D What an a$$.

Larry,

Can you contact me off list I can give you all the information you need about KZEY. I put it back on the air in 2005 after it had been evicted. I can tell you more about the signal than you ever wanted to know.

I would like to know more about KZEY myself since I've been away from East Texas since 2002 and have no idea except for maybe a short week TRYING to listen to them in 2006.

136kgb, if you don't mind, hit me up offline via e-mail and fill me in on it, too. I sure would like to be interested as to what violations Russell had violated on the once great heritedge station at 690 kilohertz.

I experienced the same thing with "MISTER" Jerry, a good friend of mine said the same. It was an issue with respect because of his race. I'm sorry but this is 2008, black, white, or green, he is still a man, and to get respect, you have to give it as well. He first said "Good to meet you, DREW.", I replied "You too Jerry." and that's when it all started.
What an arrogant *&# ^! @ &*%@$!!!
