KZEY The licensed station with no towers??

The commission sat on his paperwork for 5 YEARS before they finally approved his renewal?! To the outside observer, it looks as if (besides not paying his $150 filing fee), Jerry did his part, it was the FCC that was screwing everything up.

I do like the line where they found "no record of operational violations".

Hmmmm, the FCC must not get out to East Texas much.

Looks like 1060's legal now. That's just amazing that the FCC "forgot" the many violations and the canceling of KOFY's license.

The FCC didnt screw up anything Russell didnt pay!!!

I do like the line where they found "no record of operational violations".

And running dead air with no EAS or legal IDs for 2 years is a major violation, and The FCC inspector in Dallas knew about it and did nothing! On top of that Russell never notified the FCC of the change of the studio address a big NO NO!

And the FCC was notified 2 years ago that KZEY was off since 05 and they did nothing! The FCC will let this man do anything!
I guess if you own a station befriend Jerry Russell and you can have illegal stations. Makes me wish I would have kept my 20kw transmitter and 60 foot tower so I could have pirated in East Texas All I had to do was say I was with Jerry Russell and he said it was OK!! They would have left me alone!!!

I agree, and I don't take back anything I said about the nation's most powerful pirate station. It was being operated without authorization for quite some time, meaning it was illegal. And just because 1060 got its call letters back doesn't necessarily mean it's legal now. A full-blown inspection could likely turn up enough violations to either force them to suspend operations immediately and/or pay huge fines, but obviously that's not going to happen.

Other than KOFY and KWRD does Jerry Russell still have any other stations that are actually on the air?

All other "Russell" stations are off the air. Before KZEY went off the air they received fines for running non directional, no EAS and no public file! So obviously it doesnt matter Im sure there is no public file or EAS for KOFY ! Has anyone even heard a legal ID yet?? Someone needs to get Sans at ETRG to run a monthly test to see if it hits KOFY's airwaves

I suspect that KOFY has been given special considerations because it's format serves a minority community.

True, they have always given minority and religious broadcasters special consideration just to keep them on the air. And I wonder if the FCC went through a staff turnover for the Obama administration that didn't know about or didn't care to lookup all of KOFY's violations. ::)

Well it might take a presidential regime change to get Jerry Russell out of broadcasting. It is a crime that he was able to get back the KOFY license when there are so many good broadcasters out there that would have done something LEGAL with it

Is KOFY even on the air these days? If so, what are there format out of curiosity.

To answer your question, the so-called 10,000 watt pirate has a split format starting with gospel from 6a-3p and blues from 3pm to sign off.

Starting at 6 A.M., really? The question then becomes why are they on the air before sunrise, since they don't have a pre-sunrise authority? And if it matters, they should be signing off at 5:15 this month.

That is a good question. I tried to call them and NO one answers the phone. After looking at the Radio-Locator website it did show that they are listed. And I believe according to one of the posters and I have no idea about this, they must be legal....or AREN'T they?
