KZIA FM To Announce Staff Change

This morning KZIA's Scott Schulte mentioned on air that this Friday (9/22/06) the station would announce a change of personnel from the current morning crew. He said that one person would be leaving the morning team.

Any ideas of who that might be and why?

This sounds like another of Norton's ploys.

He's probably still trying to sober up from the effects of another Redskin beatdown, and is taking it out on his crew.

My guess would be that Monica West, whom Norton has had a crush on for years, will be somewhere in the new lineup. Isn't she also the love interest of their PD?

What a tangled web of deceit.

Hmmmm....Interesting that this would happen so close to the start of the fall ratings period. My guess is that it would be a low level cast member on the morning show who is leaving to take a better job. This kind of hype and promotion has happened before at other stations, and, at the end of the day the staff change is no big deal. Remember, Norton and Keller retain the consultant services of a promotional icon in Page (I am not even going to try to spell his last name)

Just my two cents

Who would it be? Let's see:

-Ric's been mentally checked out for years and just showing up and punching the buttons. Now that Norton bought ESPN, I wouldn't doubt if he's going to the AM dial, but I don't think he could do it alone. PD of that station? Perhaps.
-Scott's not going anywhere. What the else would he do? Return to teaching? Yeah, right. Bottom line is that Scott and Ric go together and don't go alone.
-Johnny has had his nose so far up Norton's rear end that I wouldn't doubt that he's made him the PD or promotions director of both stations or at least ESPN. What a joke. He doesn't know you know what about radio if it hit him in the face.

It should be interesting. Their consultant Paige's idea of a good time always involves a stunt having something to do with male or female private parts that would be offensive to anyone. He's not the promotions genius he's rumored to be.

If you've ever talked sports with Ric, you'd know he would work well doing an all-sports format. He's a HUGE Bengals/Reds fan, and knows both pro and college.

That said, I don't think that's what's being planned.

As for Monica (my friend/business partner), she has glowing comments about Rob and Eliot, but she is also doing well in her new career.

I point you to monicawest.net/radio.php...

LOL StepUp2Mic.....not even former employees know where KRNA is. Know why?? Cause the station BLOWS and no one cares! LOLOL!

OR the Cumulus offices were originally supposed to move up there, but the officeholders on that floor changed their mind and decided to stay.

Monica left KRNA LONG before the move to the APAC Building. (Or, as it often says on the roof, the "APA" Building, or the "AP_C" Building.) She recorded her commercials at WMT, so I wouldn't come down too hard on her for getting the floor wrong.

KZIA FM announced this morning that Johnny Waiver will leave after today for the Journal Broadcast Group in Milwaukee --- his home town. He will be doing web work for the group of radio, television and online services.

Now, we await the disposition of KCRG AM's staff and format and what will become of Ric and the teacher guy.

YAWNNNNNN......we should've known it was a worthless announcement of a worthless air talent. I knew there would be NO WAY KZIA would have anything except "bland" on their morning show. What I want to know, now that Johnny Waiver is leaving, who's going to go to all the Z102.9 events and seduce the high school girls? ???

Hey, what do you know...I WAS RIGHT! ;D A low level member of the morning show has taken a better job. It's true, there are no new ideas in radio. Just ideas that are new to the markets where the old ideas have not been used.

Which make them NEW ideas to the listeners that are hearing them for the first time. Contrary to the attitudes of many in these threads, it really is still about the listener. ;)

(Sorry...had 'ta...don't think I've ever posted here.)

Have a better than average day...

Hey Simon! Imagine meeting YOU here!? I had a call from a "friend of the Station" this a.m. to warn me that my name was popping up here ALOT lately. Thought I should check it out. Not sure if I should be angry or amused. Guess I better dig a little deeper.
Have a good one!

Michelle, good to see that your on board. Any thoughts on getting back into radio full-time?

I've never met you before Simon, but I will applaud your comments! If you could now help me educate some of these others who like to do nothing but whine and complain! We could fight industry bitterness together!

The Stick

Boy this topic sure bit the dust....I have NOT heard any follow ups to
"the big announcement " in quite sometime. ??? What happened?

I won't pretend to know a lot about radio ....is it just me or is there a lot of dull chit chat in the mornings for a station that targets the young.?

I won't pretend to be young either , but don't the young seek lots of music?

Or do they assume that morning drive is only for the older end of the target audience and the young only listen later on ???, and if so ...doesn't the older end of the target audience crave more than who's "really hot" according to the girl that joins them, but isn't allowed to have her name included in the show title?
Aren't they suppose to be music intense...count the amount of songs and write down the morning discussion topics and see for yourself.
What's so exciting about Z-baying a staff member's hair?
I can't recall the staff member's name , so it surely isn't an attention getter.
And who cares who one the staff member's crush of the week is?
Other than the hottest hits and bright yellow Z's all over town on anything they can stick them on...what is the draw here?
I tried to listen to FM radio in CR today and got one commercial or dull morning topic after another? Where is the music ?
Oh...wait , I think I hear Jingle Bells fast approaching.
In that case , maybe a HOT FM with lots of dull talk is good.

I agree with what you have posted about the lack of music on Z's morning show, but this is a UNIVERSAL problem. It's certainly not like Z woke up one day and decided to have a lot of news, talk, and commercial clutter in the a.m.! They followed suit and now maybe it's time for them to reinvent what makes a "great" morning show. But to condemn them for following a morning show format that is certainly the "norm" in radio is crazy! That said, if anyone could make a change it would be Z. With local management that actually cares and the brains and charisma of Scott and Ric, I would love to see it! How about you? How are you going to help? I'd love to hear some ideas.
