KZL

For a CHR, 107-5 KZL is very interesting. They are, on occasion, playing tracks as old as "Under The Bridge" by the Chili Peppers, "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice - 20 years old....as well as "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette and "Semicharmed Life" by Third Eye Blind - both 90s.

They also include tracks like "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5, "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, "Second Chance" by Shinedown, "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers, "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood, "Don't Let Me Get Me" by P!nk, "Our Song" by Taylor Swift, "Waiting On The World To Change" by John Mayer, etc - as well as a lot of recent adult CHR hits from the past few years. Except for several, most of their heaviest played songs are adult sounding.

A very interesting station. I would call it adult CHR (it almost looks like an aggressive hot AC at times), if they weren't playing Nicki Minaj, Lupe Fiasco, and some other hip hop type stuff.

^They used to be Hot AC in the 90s, and they "transitioned" to CHR around 1999 - but when 98.7 flipped from HAC to Adult Hits (2002-2003?), KZL became the Hot AC/CHR hybrid they are now

I think a lot of their uniqueness has a lot to do with the fact that they're owned by Dick Broadcasting (instead of Clear Channel/Cumulus), and the fact that there's no Hot AC, or even aggressive AC, in the Greensboro market

DB has always had great program directors and they're not afraid to structure their stations to suit their market.

Makes sense, thanks for the fill-in...

I see that 105.7 Now is leading or nearly tied right with KZL lately, and has higher cume - with WMAG being so successful, I wonder if KZL should just drop the rhythmic stuff (it's not the focal point of the station) and go Hot AC again...

98.7 flipped from The Zone to Simon in 2005.

105.7 FM, originally WFMX, was a well known and popular country station ... With the move to Greensboro/Winston-Salem, Clear Channel purchased the facility. ... taking on the WMKS calls and using the "105.7 KISS-FM" moniker/slogan. ...

Actually, I believe Sniff was referring to 98.7 Kiss Country when Chuck Finley did the morning drive after switching from CHR, this would be before they became the Point and the Zone back when Bahakel owned the station and the studios were beside 40 in the old trailer looking building. I still have a sticker for when it was CHR, and when it was country.
