98.3 (A) was first proposed as a drop in to Riverdale -- an un-incorporated area in Fresno County by a local radio tech -- for one of the major Fresno owners. The FCC requested full information to prove that Riverdale existed as a "Community" -- and allocated 98.3 A to the City of Huron -- as first and only radio service, when no one could prove that Riverdale existed. Gold Coast and it's partner have offered several local area radio stations "Short Change" to relocate to Huron, which would then allow KZLA -- to move to a new "Community" -- Riverdale as a Class "B-1". FCC staff are holding on to this one and are expected to "REJECT" the application to move KZLA to Riverdale - on two points. (1) Riverdale may be listed as a Census CDP, but KZLA has not provided proof that it exists as a community and (2) 98.3 A -- KZLA is the only radio service licensed and in operation at Huron. Several other applications are still pending for new stations at Huron, including a new application from KZLA to move to a new Class A site -- overlooking Interstate 5, north of Harris Ranch Junction. Even KZLA expects the FCC to say NO.
