KZLA to become KMVN

If KZLA was billing $20m, then the Emmis Brain Trust could sell the "intellectual property" rights to a country wannabe for a few bucks. There has to be some also-ran FM that would be happy with a 1.7 12+ share, in the money demos, format exclusivity and that kind of billing. Nurse Jeff and I seriously doubt any wannabe could afford the talent, though

Maybe over at KKBT that they are rumored to be buying?

And why would they spend 300 million or more to kill a full signled Urban station for something they dumped at 93.9? Can anyone explain that logic? The Full signled Urban probably bills more, even with it's own troubles.

I thought the calls KMVN were used by the US Coast Guard and not available.

It is pretty easy to get a release form the military for calls not in use. Very often, they turn up assigned to ships in mothballs or ships no longer commissioned or to closed bases.

Emmis applied for the call letters Tuesday...

Wonder if they have a place to "park" the KZLA calls?

That raises an interesting question: KMVN on the main channel and KZLA on the HD2 Channel! Are the HD2 Calls entitled to the same protection as those on the main channel? Or can a station owner in another market use those calls with permission? Or is permission needed? David?

HD2 channels don't have calls. They are using the letters as a brand, not officially. CCU uses the WFLA calls as a brand on several FL stations.
