KZLA

From allaboutcountry.com:

Is KZLA/Los Angeles Turning Into 'HANK?'
Last month, KZLA/Los Angeles, aired a promotion called, 'TANKsgiving,' for the holiday...giving away gasoline. Next year, could they be doing a 'HANKsgiving promotion? Rumors are flying around, and inside sources say, that the reason that KZLA switched to all-Christmas music last month, was not because they were going to totally change format, and drop Country (as AllAboutCountry pondered back then); it was to "clean the palate," to re-brand, and re-launch the ailing station to "93.9/HANK-FM."

Essentially, the Emmis station, would just use the intellectual property of it's new Indianapolis FM, WLHK (the former WENS): "97.1/HANK-FM": "He plays anything Country." Emmis is pleased with the initial ratings results for "HANK-FM," from nowhere to #6, 12+; and already ahead of powerhouse Country, WFMS in A18-34. What's fascinating is that the 12+ gains at WLHK, hasn't really hurt WFMS, at all. Obviously, a "JACK-like" approach, but Los Angeles already has a JACK station, KCBS-FM (CBS' old "ARROW"). They zoomed from nowhere, to Top 10 (12+) in a crowded Los Angeles market, after they launched earlier this year. That lead to CBS switching stations to "JACK," all over the U. S., including in Chicago, and New York. Perhaps Emmis sees that as a good sign: that L. A. embraced the "we play what we want" approach.

Right now, it's just an unconfirmed rumor, but a strong, and credible one. Tune into KZLA on the day after Christmas (10 days from today) to find out if it's true!

Seems like a short term solution to a long term problem. While they may get some initial bounce - the viability of Country in such a highly ethnic market is limited. The fact that KZLA usually holds around a 2.0 share is actually pretty good.

But it bills over $30 million, so it is not going away soon.

Exactly - and it's got an exclusive sell. And that's something anyone would love to have.

Re: Moderator Request

Sorry, I didn't know that was against the rules. Will follow proper procedure in the future.
