KZON flipping to Free FM talk format

It was just announced that CBS Radio (formerly Infintiy Broadcasting) will be flipping the Zone from Alternative to Talk on January 3rd.

There are a lot of conjectures swirling as to who will be talent on the new talk station. Obviously, Adam Corolla will be the morning show, beyond that I haven't seen nor heard who else will be on.

Condolences to the Zone staff. Congratulations to the Edge staff.

Proof Please

Nothing on All Access, nothing on CBS Radio site, nothing. It might be happening, but until I see some proof, I won't believe it

Head in the sand...

Fine. Keep your head in the sand. But if you don't believe that this is taking place then you're a fool. Of course there isn't anything on All Access or elsewhere. Do you think thery're just going to scan the press release and post it?

No.

More.

Zone.

I can't make it any clearer than that.

Hey wait

I think the reason that someone scanned to see where this news was posted is because anybody with a keyboard could report what you did. In defense of Zur, he's like every other normal person on this board. No one is doubting you, but you're the only person who has ever said that there is a confirmed report. Relax, and help verify if you can. Don't throw a rock at a guy because he wants to verify!

PS: Sirius satellite said today that Howard Stern quit! IF you don't believe me, then piss off for doubting me!

Re: Hey wait

Look at it like this, they didn't keep the whole Free FM thing a secret when they announced it, why would they only have 1 station, KZON, be a secret? Infinity isn't interested in keeping this a secret, they want people to know about the change ahead of time.

It's not that I don't think it could happen, but some back up to it would be great. We can all go around saying this and that, but without anything to back it up, it seems kind of useless.

BTW if you have any questions about Free FM, here's a little learning tool, cause we will all need it soon here in Phoenix

Oh wait, it's not going to happen.

Re: Hey wait

Whether it does or not is really not why I'm posting. I don't like the statement thrown out that it's fact, when just under the surface, it seems like eatayork just wants to argue about FM talk's viability, or inevitability, something.

Wait for it...

I believe it. Perfect timing, really. Howard's gone, Zone's been bleeding to death in the ratings, and firing people just before Christmas is just the sort of thing that management loves to do.

I predict that KZON will tread water until the new year, then launch Free FM. We already know Corolla is signed up for mornings. I'm guessing Tom Leykis and Phil Hendrie will be in the lineup.

Re: Wait for it...

Phil Hendrie is already on Extra Sports 910. I'd be surprised if Clear Channel/Premiere moved it to the Zone, a CBS radio property. True, stranger things have happened, but I have my doubts.

I'd venture to guess Phil Hendrie on XTRA is more Premiere twisting the Chickboss's arm to clear a CC show rather than a good fit for a sports station. It's not even live anyway. The affiliate sales guys at PRN would rather have a bigger ratings bonus check from being on a 100kW FM than an AM that comes in better in Casa Grande than North Scottsdale.

Well this isn't "proof", but I do know a couple of people who work for KMLE and they confirmed it yesterday. There wasn't supposed to be advance notice of course, but the post here about the job listings is what forced management to announce it.

One of the best things about this site is that you often hear about things well in advance of the trades reporting it. While I never actually kept tabs, it seems about 75%-85% of the time when someone posts news it ends up coming true.

In this specific case, I find it really easy to believe. CBS wants to launch FREE in several large markets. CBS realizes the ZONE without Stern will be a difficult challenge. Most FREE FMs were former Stern affiliates. This seems like a natural fit to me.

Could Kid and Ruben be on board for pm drive? Hmmm the plot thickens

Re: Wait for it...

Having Hendrie on live would be fantastic! He doesn't belong at 10 PM on a sports station.

Guess I gotta get a working car stereo now.

XTRA's a sports station?

Somebody better tell Barry Markson.

Clear Channel won't let Hendrie go to a competitor so he can compete against their own station.

Tom Leykis is starting to take on water. His act gets creepier with each passing year. He's been on Phoenix radio twice and never got ratings.

Don & Mike? Dunno. Maybe.
