KZON making changes

1st victim...PD Dennis Martinez...this morning they just released their night jock...who's next? What direction are they taking?

Wow I guess that's what a 1.7 gets you. If they want to gain any ground on KISS they need to DE-GHETTO-FY the station really fast before Dan Mason disconnects the life support machine on it... :'( What would you do?

GUYS WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP!!!! This isn't even worth talking about anymore. KZON will go back to its rock roots within the next 9 months and everything will be back to normal... No city needs 3 hip hop stations! :p

My Vote : Return of The Zone with some great personalities, mix the old and new alternative

Well, if Paris spends time in jail anytime in the future...it's a no brainer--the Zone flips to free Paris! ;D

I'm betting that Kid wishes he had stayed at KTAR. Friends are important, but you have to look out for number one, first and foremost. I hope Kid finds another radio gig after the flip.

Could this be considered the biggest flop since Chargers QB RYAN LEAF?

New station - Morning Budget half of station budget - no immediate success = change. 1st step - kill PD - 2nd step - tighten budget see if station "rights" itself - 3rd step - look for new niche format. Some things never change.

How does everyone think AAA would do in Phx?

AAA might fit a niche for a rimshot signal (95.1, are you paying attention?), but won't go much higher than a 2.5 share in Phoenix on a full signal.

Speaking of 95.1, how were they able to jump over 98.3 in the ratings with no budget?

They lined up their jock shifts with arbitron, explaining the night jock change.

MAY 18-34

Jamz KZON 4.0

Power KKFR 3.1

Movin KMVA 1.2

Why should KZON be THE ONE to flip???

95.1 had an AMAZING month. Over 6 share for 18-34 and #1 with Teens!?

Because kzon is awful they had no business flipping to a format not needed in the valley and i do not believe what you posted about 18-34 you posted that just to say they are doing better then they are. CBS radio should be ashamed what they did to kzon and how they ruined them!!!

It just shows you how clueless cbs radio is these days. Look at krock in nyc yuck and sophie in sandiego.

You're right about CBS. Clueless in SF too! KFRC & Movin are just a few of their major screw ups. And the funny thing is, they don't fix it. It's like they're ok with dismal numbers!

I'm sorry you lost a station that you love, but I'm not making up the ratings. For persons 18-34 KZON had a 4.0 for May. I challenge anyone to prove I'm wrong. For persons 18-34 KKFR had a 3.1 and KMVA had a 1.2 yet KZON should be the one to flip? It's obvious people here are biased and are just going to say KZON should be "blown up" no matter what.

If they are doing so well then explain the departure of their PD and also the departure of their night jock?

Let's wait and see if this trend is just a fluke for KVIB. Spanish-language radio as a whole was down, and they definitely don't have the promotional power of Univision or even Entravision (and Super Estrella barely cracks in 12+). They probably spent about 1/4 less than KMVA has on promotion and is less polished as a whole, and where is KMVA (even though the demos on both stations are a bit different)?

Wait a cotton pickin minute! Didn't KVIB score a 6+ share about 1 year ago sometime in Spring/Summer when they added Ruben S and MG's Madhouse??? ??? And what happened to them the following month? I think I heard it was like a 3 share 18-34 the month after. Its really hard to tell what these half English half Spanish hybrid stations are going to do these days. Will they go up next month? Will they go down next month? Will they be around next month ??? I heard somewhere that both KVIB and KMVA were on the block? Is that true? If so, what can stations like these cost these days? I might have enough in my car cupholder

I can't explain the departure of the PD. Who knows? Maybe CBS wasn't happy with some of his decisions. He wasn't from this market. As for the change in night-time personality, they originally had a 6p-10p and 10p-2a shift. Now it is one jock (the one who did 10p-2a) doing 7p-Midnight, lining up with arbitron. It makes sense.
