KZON making changes

Dude quit making excuses for the sad excuse of a kzon we have to put up with at least for now. We all know it was a bad programming decision

kZON's current format may have been a not so good decision, but they're not going to dump it now. It got rather un-focused earlier this year. But they'll stay with the format, Kid and ruben will stay, and they'll target KISS-FM more, and less hip-hop.

Just watch and listen.

Wait, it was a bad programming decision to flip formats and INCREASE ratings?

I'm sorry, I must be stuck in that darn parallel universe again....

There numbers were about the same as they were at the moment when they were talk and they were undoubtly better when they were alternative. They may be doing okay with 18-34 but the 25-54 demo is what matters more and i bet the talk station and the alt station did better with that breakdown. You are right the current kzon is here to stay for now but not forever and kid and ruben will need a new home.

Exactly and actually the last book of Free FM, saw some of their best numbers ever which were about where Jamz is now. I am so for Kid going back to KTAR and the Zone getting back to alternative. It is time for a change. Yeah they gave Free FM 18 months so I guess we can give Jamz until the end of the year and then blow up that thang.

18-34 is what matters to a station like KZON. You really think that 25-54 is the demographic for a station that plays Chris Brown and T-Pain???
You are biased... It's a waste of time arguing with you.

I have a cassette from April 1995 when KZON was a 'kick-Ass' AAA station with personalities like "THE BONE MAMA" Hee-Hee ;D - I hope CBS radio has GUTS to do what Bonneville did here in L.A. and bring back the spirit 'The ZON' had from 1991-95 when it showed the way for AAA to go nationwide. Former KSCA GM Bill Ward was attracted to KZON and helped in launching fm101.9 here in 1994. Influence is positive. Peace - Joe G (A LOYAL 100.3 Sound Boarder - I've turned off my Sirius for good) :D

Like i said i like that genre of music but i do not listen to kzon out of principle. CBS had not right to ruin it like they did. It is a crappy station. Kiss and power is all we need for that genre the sooner cbs realizes that the better bunch of bafoons. The only thing that is just as bad is what cbs did to krock in nyc when they brought them back. To much dinasoar rock on krock but not quite as bad as the horrific programming disaster they made in phoenix. The KZON of a few years ago should have been brought back also. There research was wrong if they even did any!!!

CBS had no right?

CBS OWNS THE STATION. They have a right to do whatever they want.

Sheesh.

I guess i should be more specific the airwaves are the publics airwaves therefore we/i own them therefore they had no right to put that format on kzon which broadcast on our/I airwaves lol

I would Like to see the Zone go back to the way it was back in the mid to late ninteys, I wasnt really into the format before I started listing to the Zone.

It was more then just a station playing music, it had a soul , thats the only thing I could come up with.

I agree we dont need three hip hop formats in the valley, hell all three might as well just simocast, beause they all play the same artist/songs. I stoped listing to the zone some time in the mid 2000's, and then went back when it was Free Fm, I am one of the few that like the format here in PHX. I would like to see it come back, I know it wont.

But anything would be better then what it is now.

Just be careful what we whish for, we could end up with another spansih station

I remember a time when the Edge and Zone where some of the valleys favorite stations.

I will say this, I like KZON far more then kiss fm, I can not stand kiss fm.

If we get rid of a hip hop format , I am for it to happen at kiss, whishful thinking I know

I agree, the Zone from 96-98 is the only station in the valley I ever really miss. I thought they had a great sound back then musically and a cool laid back vibe with Mary, Jim and Doc on the air.

A soul didn't, if I remember correctly, translate into ratings or revenue. The triple-a Zone was eclectic and interesting, but not mass appeal, and that just doesn't fly in today's bottom-line radio world. So long as that signal is owned by a company that is traded on the New York Stock Exchange, they'll never flip it back to an eclectic, interesting, but less profitable format.

I agree and know that ratings equal revenue, I was trying to say that the zone just had its own little nich if you will. It wasnt really my favorite station in the valley at the time, I was a party radio fan untell that dreadful morning of 01/01/2000.

The Zone that so many of us remember will never be back, and like so many discussion in this forum, the format that it was isnt a big draw for revenue.

Today's radio is just about the bottom line, whats trendy, so it doesnt matter if the format is and the music is good, as long as the station makes money, then thats the way is going to be.

I just remember one of the things that the Zone did, I dont rememebr how long it lasted, but they had a thing on sundays nights, where you could have your own playlist played, I think it was a ten song list, and I believe that you even got to be on the air as well.

Thats one of the things that made the ZOne different at the time.

It was Citizen's Band Radio on Saturday night with Dock Ellis. The show ran from 11:00 p.m. to Midnight, when Leah's show started. Listeners submitted 15 songs and the Bone Mama would pick the lucky winner each week.

I would love to see one of the local stations bring that show back.

Radio Free Phoenix has a guest dj show called "Radio Freedom".

Submit 15 of your favorite songs and become a guest dj. Airs Saturdays with an encore broadcast on Sunday.

Click on the Radio Freedom link at RadioFreePhoenix.com and check out the diverse playlists and familiar names of some of our past guest dj's.

I guess my memory isnt as good as I thought it was, I really thought is was on sundays and 10 songs, but since I never listened to it may be way. I was listing to partyradio's saturday nite party mix when the C.B. was on.

Well now that I am typing this, 15 songs does ring a bell a little.

Well gee, I wonder where radio free phx got the idea at

Radio Free Phoenix got the idea from the old Storm, KSTM which ran a guest DJ show for 3-4 years called 9 O'Clock Jock.
