Well having looked at the recent book, it looks like KZON is poised to be the station to watch in 2008. It pulled a 2.8 in its debut book, while KKFR took a major hit and slipped to a 2.2. It appears that those attacks on Power 98.3 must be doing wonders for 101.5 Jamz.

In my own opinion, I'm starting to enjoying 101.5 Jamz a lot more than Power 98.3.

Actually, since 101.5 JamZ flipped on 6/22/07, I believe that means Summer was the debut book. (The Summer book is July/August/September, correct?)

Particularly with regards to mix shows, 101.5 JamZ has some ideas that are different (as far as I can tell, anyway). For example, they had the "Longest Damn Mixshow Period" (not sure if that was the exact name), which I believe was 2 straight weeks of mixing during the weeks of X-Mas and New Years. That was very reminscent of what Jerry Clifton (who I believe is consulting KZON now) had in place on 103.9 (KBZR) for about a month straight back in the days of the "STEVE" stunt.

Also, the first half of the afternoon traffic jam (5p-6p) quite often seems to feature a Mix 96.9-ish song from the 80's (i.e. Belinda Carlisle "Heaven is a Place on Earth" or Pat Benatar "Love is a Battlefield") mixed together with a more recent hip-hop beat. I'm sure the hip-hop purists cringe upon hearing that, but I really enjoy it.

In addition to the standard favorites from days gone by, there are some very interesting, rarely-played-nowadays rhythmic selections featured on Flashback Friday - I've heard everything from the non-acapella version of Shai's "If I Ever Fall in Love" (the version played by Power 92 when that song was a hit) to Fat Boys "All You Can Eat" (WOW!) to even Culture Beat "Mr. Vain" (!!!)

And I love hearing Eric Edwards as the voice of the station.

Forgot to mention: it's fun to drive by 4745 North 7th Street and notice the vans of both JamZ and Power sitting fairly close to each other in the parking lot. (The Edge's van is also there, and I'm sure Movin's van is nearby as well.)

Jerry Clifton is not consulting KZON. He lives in the area - and has never even seen the inside of the station. And if you know the history, there isn't an invite pending any time soon.

OK. Back when the station was stunting or had inititally launched, I had read something suggesting that he might be consulting. Good to know and thanks for the clarification.

Fgarvin. THAT is a classic name. 'Fred Garvin - Male Prostitute'.

;)

And Paige is brilliant. Clifton, not so much. ::) Seems like the smart way to go. Great ideas and no Jerry'isms.
