Kzpo kings radio

Can someone provide any information as to what has taken place in regard to this stations signal and coverage? It seems as if both have been reduced significantly. Where at one time, the signal would be powerful enough to be heard from the base of the grapevine through Firebaugh, I could barely pick them up while driving through the valley recently. There are no other stations interfering with the frequency, just a weak and inconsistent signal.

Sounds good to me. Could be the summer heat. Strong in Visalia and Hanford. Fair in Fresno. Not hearing the LPFM on 103.3 in Downtown Fresno. Must be off the air again.

Sure would be nice if KZPO was to upgrade to full class B ( equal to 50 KW + 150 M ) I am able to hear the Modesto 103.3 if KZPO is down / off the air. KZPO needs more power. And an internet streaming feed.

KZPO is one of those stations with very low power and extreme height. The problem with those stations is that they tend to have a bad signal everywhere... not enough power to penetrate. The 70 dbu of this station only covers 31,000 persons.

In the summer, heat inversion layers can make such high stations unable to get a signal down onto the floor of the listening area. That may be what you are experiencing now.

David is spot on. The very hot summer heat , well over 100 degrees, gives rise to some strange radio coverage at times. I am getting a very strong signal from KZPO in the Visalia-Tulare-Hanford area. Even a better signal than most of the time. Full stereo signal with just a 6 inch antenna on my portable radio -- with the antenna NOT extended. The KSOF FM 98.9 signal is much weaker today. Not hearing the Hanford LPFM on 104.5 - yet hearing the AM 1300 Fresno translator on 104.5 fairly well. Go figure.

What KZPO should do is do what KJUG 106.7 did, move down to hill about 2800 feet, and be able to increase power to about 9000 watts cover Visalia - Hanford -Porterville with the 70+dbu and still be line of sight to Fresno and Bakersfield.

It's better to cover a nice area well with a strong signal than a wide area but with a signal that is weak everywhere.

KZPO would have an ERP of 12 KW from the new KJUG site as a class B-1. A lot stronger signal. Cheap construction on a 75 foot pole with a 4 bay antenna.
