KZPS 92.5 vs. The Bone 93.3

What is the Difference between The Bone and 92.5 ? ? ? ?

They are both Classic Rock Stations owned and managed by Corporations.....

That play the same old tired Consultant Playlists (for their Regular Programming....)

The Difference is.... that KZPS plays Fleetwod Mac and the Eagles.

And, The Bone plays Ratt and Poison.

Big Whoop ! ! !

No F*ckin' Difference in my Book.

Both of their shallow repetitive playlists are repulsive to any Rock Music Lover that loves the Huge wealth of great and very good tracks they aren't allowed to play, because of all the blah blah reasons we've all heard before.

If only there could be just one Rock FM station in North Texas that DID NOT have to cater to the shallow and the immature, and the alcoholic teens.

The forces that force great Rock off the radio, are the forces I can do without.

1968-1978 -- THE "GOLDEN AGE" OF ALBUM ROCK MUSIC . . .
In spite of Disco and Top 40 in that period,
it yielded the "Motherload" of Great Album Rock Releases
--Enough for a Lifetime-- :) :) :)

The only advantages KZPS has are a much longer history in the market, and Clear Channel's money behind it. The level of talent is light years' difference, and management, for better or worse, is also way ahead of what The Bone employs. The Bone has always had a cut-rate sound and approach, due to several things:

1. Short-sighted, ineffective management like Jeff K, Scott and others who insist on making the station into their personal jukebox, and refusing to give it any level of class (as in hiring stripper-looking women to run their events--i.e. 'Bone Babes,' which doesn't consider that guys with families can't feel comfortable about bringing the wife and kids--, and putting on programs that they "perceive" will appeal to their audience, like the idiotic wrestling show they used to run on Sunday nights.) They use a white trash, youthful approach to a demo that's long outgrown being treated like a kid. Like Chapman used to tell the jocks about KVIL, "Treat her like the lady she is." The Bone treats the 25-40 year old males like wild, immature children, and with no respect. The advertiser list enforces that. Not every male listener goes to the strip club. Maybe if we were talking the old Eagle or Live 105.3, that'd be ok. But the Bone's demo skews older than those stations do/did. KZPS does treat the listener with some level of respect to their CURRENT 'station' in life.

2. The frequency is signally-challenged and can't even adequately cover the whole metro area. That's a major tune-out factor if one is only there to listen to the music.

3. The refusal of management to allow the jocks to talk to or interact with the listener, instead making the jock's job into nothing more than a liner reader who must run all his scripts past Jeff K for approval in advance. The station must speak its "theme" through spots and events and their website.

I'm not really a fan of either station. Each plays music I like, but neither is much worth what you have to listen to BETWEEN the songs, just to get to the next song. If there's not going to ever be true homage or respect paid to stations Q-102 or KZEW by 93.3 or 92.5, then there's nothing left there but the music...and I can get that off my local iPod or satellite or my own CDs. And I can program to my own tastes better than they can. God forbid I ever want to chill with some Steely Dan, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc...I'm all on my own, anyway.

Nah, there's no way to just make one good station out of two. Classic Rock is just too wide a format to make everyone happy. There's the post'er out there who's only into 1968-78 album rock. If a lone 'mega station' peppered the format with any hair bands from the 80s, or any Nirvana from the 90s, he's tuning out. Some folks think Beatles when they think of Classic Rock...there's a whole different can of worms (which era? Pre-drug or post-drug Beatles? Is "Nowhere Man" really a KLUV-type song or a KZPS-type song?) Just too much conjecture there to make one solid station. BUT......both KZPS and KDBN could sure do a much better job than they do now. But it's corporate radio, dummy...do they really give a damn if they can keep selling ads around the current schlock???

That's why I think some of us would like to see 93.3 go back to it's Zone or Merge ways. I actually liked the station during those periods. It's been said on here too many times... we need a true Alternative station now. I'd love to see an AAA or heaven forbid an Indie twist :)

KMAD

Is much better than either 92.5 or 93.3. Honorable mention goes to two classic rock "Bears" - one on 104.7 in Wichita Falls and one on 102.7 in Abilene (if you can point an antenna to get rid of digital hash from 102.9.

It is now next to impossible to get the classic rock 101.9 out of Paris because of digital trash from 102.1.

Casualties of IBOC: the right to choose bettter, but more distant stations.

You got to be kidding about the classic rock station out of Paris"The Bus"101.9 programmed by the internet waitt network. It's a guarantee there you will hear Pink Floyd's "money" every 90 minutes followed by Boston's "More than a feeling" The Bear in Waco is light years ahead of this piece of junk. Waitt radio is basement cheap and sounds like it.

In the Star Trek TV series, they talked about "Matter" and "Anti-Matter".

The crappy adds and the horrible "Music" in them that are played continuously on 92.5 and 93.3 is more "Anti-matter" than the weak selection of Music, than doesn;t Matter, and so they contantly are digging a rut for themsleves, theat their tired Music slections Never rises above.

Their Net result, MUSICALLY, is NEGATIVE.

It wouldn't bother me that KZPS and The Bone are there to simply pimp out music like Steely Dan, Steve Miller, Boston and Quiet Riot just to hawk as many crass and crappy advertisements as humanly possible, if there was just -ONE- FM Rock station in this area that did NOT treat me like I was White Trash, or some clueless middle-aged dummy.....
______________
