KZQZ 1430AM

According to Radio-Locator KZQZ broadcasts with 5,000 watts daytime and nightime. They use two towers for their daytime
pattern and four towers for their nightime pattern.

They (1430) had a tower go down during a bad storm in 2006, The same storm that took down two of the KTRS (550) towers. Does anyone know if either of those sites have been repaired? As I was told they were both operating non directional with 1250 watts. KTRS daytime operation was not affected since they are already nondirectional with 5 kw daytime. I have heard KTRS at night in Pennsylvania with the nondirectional operation, but have yet to catch 1430...

KTRS has applied for an extension of their STA to operate non directional at 1250 watts of power. Here is
their STA application: http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=7434

I don't see any STA applications for KZQZ but see on the internet KTRS lost two towers and KZQZ lost one
tower during the bad storm of 2006. Did KZQZ even apply for a STA and/or did the FCC not post their
STA application?

Dr. Boogie announced on the air last night that they have reports from out of state listeners. He mention
a listener from Ohio and one from St. Paul Minn. A couple of others states he mentioned were unintelligible because of the noise at my listening post here in central Ohio. Can anyone call the station and see if they
are operating ND at night? That would explain some of the out of state reception reports they are receiving these days.

After I posted I tuned into 1430AM here in Chicago and I was able to hear the music, it was rather faint but, I was able to hear
it. It would be interesting to see what kind of facilities they are using at night.

On another note, they really played a nice variety of oldies. I agree with the person a few lines above who wishes they would
stream live.

I gave the old Contour a tune at 1430, after dinner and darkness set this evening... Listened for 15 minutes on my way back from the local Ponderosa off US-41 & Indiana State Road-64... Faint, most of the time, but impressive on the flow in that quarter hour.. Heard two songs I have not heard for YEARS... Jingles and the Jock Shout were nice...A real feel of mid to late 60's formatics....I hope their "Beat Goes On" for a long time and hope it makes it's way to the internet stream, by time they go back to their licensed night pattern.. 8)

:)Hello Everyone, I'm brand to the website here.
But I wanted to say I adore this station. :D
Tonight is the 5th anniversary of my husband's passing, and riding in the car listening made me feel as if Jim was sitting next to me.
I've heard songs that he and I romanced to 30 years ago, some made me cry some made me smile, but one made me feel so much closer to him. Each memory is precious I’m so glad to have kzqz around.

radioguybroadcasting: KZQZ is one of the strangest animals around. Local owner, no budget, veryfew commercials, almost no staff. No wonder you didn't hear back for a DX. This station is one fine sounding example of what can be done with nothing but smoke and mirrors. They bill themselves as being renegades, and breaking all the rules, which they do, but when the smoke clears, the station rocks and reaches people, such as Sherrie. There is no cash flow; the corporation that owns it has no debt on it, and things like professional jingles, and streaming are out of the question. I think it may exist as a nice piece of broadcast real estate that could be liquidated quickly at a good profit with little problem. In the meantime, they are one of the very few St. Louis AM stations to show up in the book, and it's a great listen if you're ever within earshot, (even in Nebraska)! By rights, this should be a brokered time station filled with preachers screaming, and vitamin sellers proclaiming miracle cures. 5K daytime and night time in St. Louis is a good throw, and daytime signal can be heard about one hundred miles in every direction. There should be more KZQZ's around the country! This is NOT a wasted signal, like so many others.

I agree, with a limited budget and staff, it's very unlikely you'd hear back from a station about a DX catch.

What a shame. Trouble getting it on the East Side as well after sundown. Guess the signal shoots north and south then. What stations are they protecting with the nighttime array?

I listen to kzqz as far north east as Alhambr, Illinois and as far south east as Waterloo, Illinois. In the evening the signal is weak any time i pass under a bridge or a lot of wires are over head. Other wise I can listen clearly anytime I want. But I only listen in the car I've not tried in the house.

And Dr. Boggie Rocks and I have talked to him through request line. The others are the Queen and King of Oldies

Agreed, Clarke "Dr. Boogie" Davis is one of the finest oldies jocks I have ever heard - any idea where he came from? I had never heard of him before the "Krazy Q."

This sounds fantastic. I hope they can stream because I can't imagine hearing them in Florida, although KMOX makes it down here on occasion.
