KZRC 96.1 Durant OK

FCC says it's a 6KW on a 300 ft tower licensed to Bennington, OK. They also say it's owned by North Texas Radio Group, l.P.

Radio Locator thinks it's an alternative format running under the name, "The Kat."

Radiotime.com thinks it may be or have been co-owned with KZRC 1420 AM Bonham, TX.

The word "silent" came up a couple of times on Google, but no website ever did.

I believe the FM KZRC was on 92.5 in Bay City, known as "The Kat" with an AOR/Alt hybrid format. Not sure the current status.

KZRQ is the former KFYZ 98.3 from Bonham that was moved to Bennington to accomodate the KBOC move-in from Bridgeport to Dallas. I know it went dark right before the move, but I don't know what's happened since then. The records on Radio Locator show the old format on KZRQ 92.5 in Bay City, TX.

About five months ago it was running rock with liners that stated "This is program test authority of KZRC 96.1 FM"... It has been dead carrier ever since. I listened to the sounds of silence on it last Friday.

Nice little signal there... I could get it most of the way down to Van Alstyne..

I was at lake Texoma this weekend I was fliping channels and landed on 96.1 they were running rock and was saying we are testing KZRC-FM Binnington/oklahoma and then it finally went dead carrier tho the transmitter is on. spotty covrage just south of Kingston where I was at.

It sure looks like one of those "let's turn it on and make sure we hold the license" things. My guess is they're waiting until the other shoe drops elsewhere to move it somewhere else. Where it's at right now isn't exactly a very useful market...

Sorry for the bump. Just found out they've been carrying Pottsboro Cardinals high school football the whole season. Never heard of them.
