KZWV 101.9 testing

KZWV 101.9, which replaces the former KBMX, is testing. It has been running billboards and a website indicating the new station is coming and hired Steve Richards from KATI and John Caran from KWWR. It began testing sometime between 4:30 and 7:15 this evening with country and promos saying, "The Best Country, Z-Country, is coming." We'll have to see if it's a smokescreen or the real thing. The jocks it hired come from country stations, but I had heard it wouldn't be doing country.

I have recently done a Google search on KZWV 101.9 and found that it is 101.9 the Wave. The station features a mix of AC and Smooth Jazz. Although they say "smooth and relaxing," they don't play Barry Manilow, Anne Murray, the Carpenters, and other relaxing artists. They include jarring music like "Unwritten" by Natasha Beddingfield. They play a few 70s songs per hour. The only thing smooth and relaxing about the music mix is the Smooth Jazz tracks. I would like to hear more MOR tracks.

Thanks for a good laugh Ivan.

It isn't so funny to me when a new radio station copycats another radio station. If I wanted Natasha Beddingfield, Rob Thomas, Hootie and the Blowfish, and other hard contemporary artists, I'd listen to KPLA 101.5. When I want relaxing music, I want MOR, not AC. I sure hope 101.9 the Wave will add MOR tracks to really differentiate themselves from KPLA 101.5.
