KZZP turning into a normal chr?

Anyone else listening and realizing that? They're now playing Hate Me, Dani California, and Far Away. Not many Rhythmic leaning CHRs are even touching those yet.

Unless you live north of Camelback Rd., you can probably consider Power 98.3 to be non-existent unless they put a translator or booster downtown. According to the usually-generous Radio-Locator.com, their local coverage will include north and northwest Phoenix, north Scottsdale, Peoria, and Glendale, but not much else.

There are a couple of stations already broadcasting from the same place that power will be. Does their signal magically go away once you cross that red line on the map you linked to? Of course not.

I think the power people have a BETTER than average shot at remaining a potent competitor. They have a format thats proven, listeners that are loyal, clients that believe in the product. Probably not going to be easy for them, but in no way should KZZP- or anyone else- factor them out of the equation.

Looks like their antenna is close to Star 97.5...if not on the same tower. Nurse Jeff checked the coordinates and claims the site is within a loogies distance. Star 97.5 has multipath probs on the south side of the Peak formerly known as Squaw as well as Camelback. Of course the other problem with these rimshots is signal strength in urban areas.

Depends on the receiver as well as the location. A car radio should have less problems than a home receiver, and then it depends on the quality of the radio. A cheap receiver in the middle of the city will get overload from 97.9 and 98.7 with any kind of antenna attached to it, while a good radio might get 98.3 just fine.

97.5 is a perfect example. I can pick it up on my car radio in Ahwahtukee but none of my receivers at home can. My mother in north-central Scottsdale can pick it up on her good stereo, but on her cheap one, all she gets is KUPD and KPKX bleedover.

The proof, of course, will be after the upgrade. We'll see how they do then.

There's no doubt that the signal is different. Plenty of holes. Nothing beats a South Mountain signal.

My point is that if KZZP still has no idea what it wants to be, and still can't execute, those listeners that prefer power will choose power.

A south mountain radio station does not guarantee ratings and revenue performance. Please direct your attention to 101.5.

What differentiates Power from Vibe & Star is that power has been around umpteen years, and the format gets cume.

KZZP is definitely back to being a Mainstream CHR.

So while the market previously had two full-signal rhythmic CHRs now it will have Zero. weird.
