From RadioInfo and Talkers on Tue. 8/21/2012:
Los Angeles Radio Personality Paul Crosswhite Passes Away.
He was both a newsman and a music host working over the years at a number of top Southern California stations including KNX-FM, KJOI, KFWB, KWST, KEZY, KNX, KRTH and KFI. And for more than 10 years through most of the 1990s into 2001 Paul Crosswhite served as morning host at smooth jazz outlet KTWV (The Wave). While at KNX-FM as a newsman he won the AP award for best newscast. He has received Golden Mike awards for documentary, feature and best newscast. According to LA radio historian Don Barrett of LARadio.com, Crosswhite died (on August 17) after being in the hospital for the past month after a battle with health problems that he had been fighting for several years. Barrett recalls a beautiful statement written by Crosswhite in the summer of 1995 Wave newsletter: “There’s something almost magical about the music we play on ‘The Wave.’ From the moment I became morning host, I felt that soothing effect. It can elevate one’s mood – even before the sun comes up – into something really positive and good-feeling.”
(Also) according to LARadio.com’s Don Barrett, “Crosswhite did news during most of his tenure in Southern California radio...He did news during the glory years of KNX-FM. During the Gulf War, he won the Associated Press Award for best newscast. When he moved to “the Wave,” he gave up news to become a DJ, originally in the evenings and, later, mornings after the female morning drive team collapsed.”
