According to KTHV-Channel 11, Little Rock radio station KITA will change formats on Sunday. The report says that owner Tom Rusk sold the station to a New York group and no word on their plans for the station were announced. Deacon Alvin White, a longtime fixture with the station, said in his signature gravely voice that the station has seen many great announcers through the years. I can attest that the station, on 1440 AM, had a sound that was unique to Little Rock. A professional sounding morning show, complete with traffic and news, just like the big boys, was a staple on the station. The black gospel station may have succumb to pressure of 94.9 FM, I don't know. But it is sad to see one of the last, locally owned stations in Central Arkansas, being bought by people out of state. The station always tried to compete with the big guys and actually always did fairly respectable in the ratings, considering it's situation. Since nothing else is going on with this board, I figured this was worth mentioning.
