LA KALLE 95.1 GONE...

SO LA KALLE 95.1 IS GONE, WENT OFF AIR TODAY 1/12/06, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT??, I THOUGH THE STATION WAS DOING PRETTY GOOD, I LIKED IT ALOT BETTER THAN THE BEAT BUT THEN SAN ANTONIO FADS THAT COME IN AND OUT, MAYBE Z1067 WILL GO AFTER THE REGGAETON STYLE AND MIX IT WITH THE TOP40 TO BRING THE RATINGS UP, WHO KNOWS BUT I THINK THIS IS THE DUMBEST MOVE UNIVISION HAS EVER DONE...

sorry bout that!, 95.1 La Kalle has turned into a Mariachi Station, Even with San Antonio being half mexican/hispanic San Antonio isnt a Mariachi market, The mexican's/hispanic's in San Antonio are Tejanos/Nortenos, I think they had it good with La Kalle but I think it was taking the sister station "the beat" ratings away..

Take ratings from the beat? I wouldn't say that. La kalle is now Recuerdo. This is like the flip in the RGV with KBTQ.

It sounds like the more contemporary "Recuerdo" approach that has been appearing or reappearing in many markets. It's ironic that 95.1 began targeting the San Antonio market with a "Recuerdo" format in September 2000.

wow that was fast. Kinda figured that it wouldn't last long. I wonder if Mega 101 in Houston (or any other place that has a similar format to La Kalle) is next.

I don't know how La Kalle billed, but BMP should take a look at that option with KRIO (Digital). My guess is that the "La Kalle" type format would pull higher ratings on 104.1 than "Digital" does presently.

95.1 from SA is a rare find up at my home in Round Rock. On strong eastern DX mornings, I have actually picked up a 95.1 from Beaumont before 95.1 in SA. Weren't they kind of like a Hurban format?

The format is the Recuerdo network out of Los Angeles, playing adult Mexican hits.

It is not Mariachi. Marichi means "ranchera" and only 3 or 4 songs an hour fit this definition and they are the lighter, romantic tunes. The rest is ballads and grupera music of the 70´s and 80´s and 90´s.

> Even with San Antonio being half mexican/hispanic

So why is KROM, which is Regional Mexican, the #1 Spanish language station, with over a 4 share?

> The mexican's/hispanic's

Then why does KXTN have shares that have fallen 60% in the last few years, and whose audience is all over 35?

Kalle had no impact on The Beat... in fact, The Beat just had several of its best trends in the last few months.

And Phoenix with KOMR, Dallas with KLNO, Houston with KOVE, San Diego with KLQV and Fresno with KVBE and San Francisco with KBRG and Chicago with WPPN.

The real question is; will this station bring down KROM in the ratings? Same thing in Dallas. Can't wait to see their ratings.

WPPN

When did the WPPN flip occur? Are they still broadcasting
as Spanish AC (Pasión)?

They have been Pasión but with the Recuerdo music format since November.

This was Univision plan all along

Univision did a great job on preventing 102.7 in flipping to Hip Hop or Hip Hop/Reggeaton. Think about it, Univision never spent any money on advertising La Kalle, never changed call letter, their promotion vehicle never had La Kalle or spent any real money on their morning show. La Kalle was design to prevent CBS Radio in considering such a flip. Now that Jack FM is on the air Univision will spend the money on the new 95.1 Recuerdo. I have to say that La Kalle did fairly well with just word of mouth. I wouldn't be surprise if Mix adds some Reggeaton to it's playlist. As for Cox and BMP, it will be more of the same.

Check out the link below to see La Kalle Hummer:

Also, KCOR also offered KBBT middayer, John Medina, a 3 year
contract to program La Kalle. It seems to me that they made
the necessary moves to keep the format. If you are keeping
score at home here are the remaining La Kalle:

New York: WCAA/WZAA
Las Vegas: KRGT
Dallas: KFZO
San Francisco: KVVF/KVVZ

Univision flipped WRTO a week ago...i think.

Fresno is also La Kalle on one of the 3 signals, as is Chicago on WVIX/WVIV.

It is still called La Kalle, but is tropical based.

KCOR changed because there was a bigger opportunity in joining the Recuerdo network, and getting a big morning show, a night show that gets a 6 share in LA, and weekend feature and specialty shows among other things.

Re: Recuerdo Local?

David:

I'm in L.A. When we've discussed the differences between "Preciosa," "Jose" and "Recuerdo" - you mentioned the latter was local while the other two are networks. But you said KCOR is on the "Recuerdo" network. I thought each one was locally programmed with local talent?

Recuerdo is local in LA, and originates the morning, overnight and night show for the new Recuerdo network, which went on the air yesterday, with affiliates in SA, Houston, Dallas, McAllen, Phoenix, San Diego, Fresno and San Francisco.

Jose is the one with no jocks at all. Preciosa is network 24-7.

That's right. I missed those.

Is the morning show you are referring to the one hosted
by actor Rafael Sigler on KRCD? Will there be any locally
produced programming content?

It's "Pacorro y La India Edelmira" and service elements are local.
