La Kalle 98.3?

There has been a lot of talk about Univision blowing up "Recuerdo" for their "La Kalle" format in Los Angeles. From what i'm hearing SBS beat them to the punch when they launched "Latino" this past summer so they put it on hold. Apparently Univision has sent their "Hurban" expert to L.A. to asess the situation.
Sounds like a solid rumor to me since "Latino" looks to be on track for a decent first book and Univision has already launched a second "Hurban" in Miami to compete with Clearchannel's "Mega". I've heard the NY "La Kalle" and IMO it sounds like they really get what reggaeton is all about, but can Univision pull this off in L.A. with a handicapped signal?
Things are definitely going to get interesting if this is more than just a rumour.

No one better to answer this than David (especially since he would now how much revenue "Recuerdo" has) - but "Recuerdo" owns a VERY nice position in the marketplace - and has done well 25-54 ... If "Recuerdo" were to go away, seems like it would open up a nice hole for someone... I don't know if I'd risk it...

I forgot to mention in my original post that the rumours stem from Recuerdo not being able to turn their 25-54 numbers into $.
Definitely a risk, but we've all seen radio companies do stupider things.

Then the rumors are unfounded, since Recuerdo apparently bills quite well.<P ID="signature">______________

Untrue. Recuerdo in La just spawned a clone, KVBE 107.5 in Fresno, launched 10 days ago. There has never been a plan for Kalle in LA.

The 98.3 signal is not good enough for a 12-24 format like Latino is... where most listening is on portable and less sensitive devices.

No. And that is why they will not do it. Besides, Recuerdo, which has been in the top 10 25-54 many times this year, is far more salable than 12-24 which is where most of the Latino aqudience resides.

By the way, it is not 98.3 alone. It is a simulcast of 103.9 & 98.3, covering a large part of central and eastern LA.

what would you rather sell.. a station with an averasge listener age of 37 like KRCD/V, or one with an age of 20, like Latino? A quick check of 25-54 should explain that one.

News to me.

That one is too stupid gto contemplate.

It's sold out most of the time.

I would like to know what kind of revenue it does. The last BIA I saw was under $10 million. I have to imagine with the solid 25-54 numbers it has, it should be at least at $15-$20 million - if not higher.

Obviously, I can't say. But it's a good guess range and 2005 projection.

BIA is often off on how much of a cluster's revenues belong to each station... they get the cluster pretty accurately (which usually comes form Miller Kaplan) but not the ocmponents.
