LA LEY IN LA TOILET?

just saw this on the curtis site. isn't that the same building where wztk used to be? any guesses as to what this is about?

Station Manager - Curtis Media Alamance County, NC

"Curtis Media Group is seeking an experienced station manager to lead our radio and digital properties serving Alamance and surrounding counties in Central North Carolina. Our stations cover a dynamic area situated near the crossroads of Interstates 85 and 40 growing westward towards Greensboro and eastward to Raleigh-Durham. Alamance County is home to 160,000 residents, renowned Elon University, LabCorp, Honda Power Equipment, the Alamance Regional Medical Center and 5,000 businesses large and small. We compete with established, major consolidators in two Top-50 markets, so prior experience in developing and selling county-specific formats is a plus. A thorough comprehension of station operations, FCC compliance, personnel development and strategic assessment is mandatory. This position will report directly to the president of the company."

Seems Like to me Alot spanish stations just don't make money. reason why 105.3 out of near Belmont was sold!!! They Been Better Off if they Left Laley the way it was!!!!

yes, turkeydance, I understand the position is about selling advertising in the Triad. I was just wondering if there is some big shake-up related to the switch to la ley on 101.1 last year and the recent end of la ley in Raleigh......wondering if la ley is now struggling, and perhaps someone is being scapegoated as a result. sorry if I didn't make that obvious.

That's what I remember w00t.
"County-specific" also doesn't sound like they are hiring for 96.9 or 101.1 or anything they have on the FM.

I still think Curtis Media Group should have left 101.1 alone as a "talk" format, but in the process, move WSJS to FM, they could still do so.

thanks, disg.....
essentially, my take
is not about A format FOR radio.
it's about broadcast radio AS a format.
AC/CR/whatever. can advertisers reach
the 18-36 MALE demo with what radio has?
radio will do that?
since when?

turkeyD, you are going down a rabbit hole that most broadcasters don't want to contemplate, and for good reason. even so, there are still viable formats going forward. clearly, music radio is a corpse, with the exception of Country, as long as Country does not become too American-Idolized. Programmers would be wise not to put too many eggs in the carrie underwood basket lest they poison the well in the same way that AC programmers did, beginning in the late 90s. just my opinion. Newstalk may be the only other bright star on the horizon for FM, and I'm astonished that nothing has come along to fill the enormous vacuum that was created when WZTK was dumped. At a minimum, you would think there would be something resembling their morning show on some station by now. Instead, we have two unpalatable choices: JR Snider's never-ending W-S community bulletin board, and the fake, rehearsed, forced conservative chatter on 94.5. Do those people at RDU have any idea how stilted they sound, especially the female co-host?

if sports-talk is a different format from news-talk, then i disagree.
sports-talk is growing. news-talk just switches stations/clusters.
also gospel is growing. if i continue to scan the AM, i will need
to speak Spanish, or know the Bible better.

Hell will freeze over before I ever learn to speak Spanish.

it's all about the guys:
“Cable has done a good job of hitting us where we ain’t (with male-skewing, cutting-edge shows),” says one network research exec.

ok.
that was from Variety talking about cable TV beating broadcast.
both broadcast radio/tv are in the same boat. that's why sports-talk
radio is growing. it gets guys. news-talk did it for 20 years. it's done.
the band-wagon for sports-talk is over ten years old. it's just about done.
done, as far as *growth* goes (more stations, more ads, more money).
Get The Guys.......the phrase that pays.

Hey w00t, WPCM, CMG's Beach & Oldies station is out of the building on Tower Dr off of Front street, but the WZTK studio is there as well brodcasting the La Ley format from there, originating from Highwoods.
