La Preciosa 740

I am listening to La Preciosa on 740 A.M. and I am looking at the nice web site that they have, but I am a bit confused. I am Mexican and I feel that the music and overall appearance of the web site and music is geared toward me (Mexican), but what about the Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Dominican listeners? It appears to me that the programmers at Clear Channel are telling the listeners that hispanics are all the same.

Total Population 185951 100.00%
Hispanic or Latino(of any race) 32510 17.48%
Mexican 2279 1.23%
Puerto Rican 17029 9.16%
Cuban 2696 1.45%
Other Hispanic or Latino 10506 5.65%
Not Hispanic or Latino 153441 82.52%
White alone 94452 50.79%

Based on data from the 2000 census.

The plan of Clear Channel from the beginning of La Preciosa was to be geared toward a Mexican audience. This was how they announced it back in 2005.

Clear Channel Radio Launches La Preciosa Network With Instant National Reach
Mexican Variety Music Network Delivers Coveted Demographic in Key Markets Spanning Entire U.S.

As you know, stations are focusing on specific age groups and now specific ethnic groups.

Yeah....I saw that too, but the question is, "How do you servre an almost nonexistent ethnic group?" Go up to a Puerto Rican and tell him/her that they are the same as a Cuban, Dominican, Hatian, Mexican, etc...and you are going to give them entertainment wise what you think represents their culture because you think they are all the same. I don't see ANY Mexican flags proudly displayed in the car of a Puerto Rican. I also don't see any Mexian flags being waived at the Amway Arena when Carlos Arroyo makes a basket.

C.C.'s next great plan is to bring an all Israeli format to the Palestinian population. Cant wait!!

First, "Mexican" is not an ethnicity, it is a nationality. Preciosa programs for people who are Mexican or of Mexican heritage. There are many ethnicities among Mexicans, but the Preciosa music format is based on the broad based hits of Mexico of the 60's through the 90's.

Wouldn't CC find it more profitable to run 740 as a pay to air station, rather than being a "for ratings" station?

I'll bet they could get average dj joe/jill to pay more money for a designated timeslot to play music from his/her culture or background than they currently generate in ad revenue as the station it is now.
