La Preciosa in Houston?

I would think there are a few raised eyebrows amongst Houston radio managers who have looked at the skyrocketing numbers for the recently launched La Preciosa format on DFW's KEGL 97.1.

I'd be surprised if La Preciosa (or a clone) doesn't turn up somewhere soon on the Houston airwaves. Even with the slight uptick of KROI in the latest trend, it might be time for Radio One to go for what would appear to be a home run. Or perhaps Liberman might want to throw in the towel on "XO" and flip 107.9.

Actually, Preciosa itself is a clone... a total copy of KRCD in LA.

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I expect more imitators to pop up soon...unless "the original" beats them to it!

In today´s trend in Fresno, where Precisoa had been on for 15 months, the new KVBE, Recuerdo 107.5, has just beaten Preciosa by 450% in 25-54 in November extraps. Phoenix Recuerdo increased 25-54 by nearly 150% over former AC format, and is #2 Spanish in the market in November.

107.5, while not licensed to the metro, is on the same tower and same power as KFSO. Both 60 dbu the market, and, in fact, can be heard nearly into San Jose to the West and as far as Delano to the South. In many senses, these two signals are better than most of the Fesno COL ones. In fact, 107.5 cdomes in solidly on the decline to Bakersfield on the 5 Freeway, totally erradicating KLVE in LA

In Phoenix, Recuerdo is on 100.3 and 106.3, covering the Valley pretty well from each side. The coverage is the equivalent of a local C, and has the advantage of adding a lot of extra geography, to the West and Southeast.

Wouldn't it be nice...

...If KIOL would only purchase a signal coming from the west side to simulcast the station. Maybe KIOX in El Campo...That station has been dead in the water since X97 went off of the air and Cumulus, like Liberman, wouldn't even have to bother changing the calls.
