Who is Shadow Steele?

I remember those days, maybe the last big stand for personality radio in LA or anywhere else for that matter. How I miss Frazer Smith, and Mr. Sweet Dick as well as Rick Dees back in the day when he was fresh and original.

By the way there is a country station back in Iowa that I listen too when I am visiting friends there and also on line here, Scott Shannon is their imaging voice http://www.kmgo.com/.

Shadow did afternoons at KQLZ, but when I was at KROY in Sacramento he was doing nights there as Jeff "Mother" Robins. I know that he was Rocket Man at B100 in San Diego before that and I believe he also worked at U100 in Minneapolis among others. He left KROY for WIFI in Philly in 1977. I used to know his real name buy have forgotten it over time. He was a total pro.

Bryan, read teh article it linked to: http://www.kqlz.com/pirateradio1.html

My question was who is Shadow Steele? I know who Shadoe Stevens, aka Terry Ingstad is.

I knew from working at KROY when he was Jeff Mother Robbins that Shadow Steele's real name first name is Scott but the web page in the previous post lists his full name as Scott Wright. It also gives a more complete resume than my memory could conjure up.

1973 - KBEQ Kansas City 10p-2a "Jeff Stevens"
1974 - U-100 Mpls./St. Paul 6-10p "Jeff Mother Robbins"
1975 - B-100 San Diego 6-10p "Rocket Man"
1976 - KROY Sacramento 6-10p "Jeff Mother Robbins"
1977-1980 - WIFI Philadelphia 2-6p/MD - "Jeff Robbins"
1983-1987 - Z-100 New York - 3-7p/Operations Manager - Shadow Stevens
1987-1989 - B-97 New Orleans/EZ Communications VP/Programming - Shadow Stevens
1989-1991 - Pirate Radio L.A. 3-7p/Operations Manager - Shadow Steele
1991-1993 - Epic Records - Sr. Director/Promotion - Shadow Steele
1993-1995 - B-97 New Orleans/EZ Communications VP/Programming - Scott Wright
1995-2001 - HITS Magazine L.A. - VP/Promotion - Shadow Steele
1999-Present Proprietor/Winemaker Scott Paul Wines California/Oregon
2001 - Present - General Manager - Domaine Drouhin Oregon

I have an aircheck of him from KROY and it's a smoker. He was a total pro. I started out as a phone-op/music researcher at KROY and learned a lot just watching and listening to him. He was very focused with great concentration. He was one of the best night jocks that KROY ever had, and they had some great ones over the years.

WIFI 92 was the smokin FM back in those day's. I was doing nights at WIFI when Jeff Robbins arrived in late 1977. I think I was like, 17 at the time. Jeff and I rapidly became good friends, as I showed him all the local haunts in Philly. Jeff was always very friendly. Steve Rivers was the program director at KROY when he was hired by General Cinema to program the Philadelphia station after Bob Hamilton left WIFI/92 for KRTH. Steve Rivers brought Jeff Robbins, and KROY morning team, Byron and Tanaka with him to Philly. I think I have an air checks around here of a crossover.

I have a couple of WIFI airchecks myself. One of Jeff Robbins and another of my old friend Liz Kiley. The format was almost exactly the same as KROY when Steve Rivers was PD there. They were very well programmed stations.
