LA Radio Host Mary Turner

Former KMET radio DJ Mary Turner, who went on to host several syndicated shows, has died:

Her husband, Norm Pattiz, died in December. She hosted the Westwood One series Off The Record.

Unfortunately, more 'fresh hell' in my in-box.

Living in St. Louis, I got to hear Mary's "Off The Record" syndicated show on the radio. Reading Jim Ladd's "Radio Waves" in the 1990s brought her higher up on my radar. She sounded great on-air.

Don Barrett has a great bio on Mary at LARadio.com. She got her start in San Francisco radio, working for Tom Donohue at KSAN. After Tom died, she moved to LA where she worked at KSAN's sister station KMET. When that station changed formats, she started her syndicated interview show Off The Record. But then in the 90s, her career made an unexpected turn, as she went to UCLA, and pursued a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. In the 2000s, she became the chairperson of the Betty Ford Center. Quite a change for someone who lived the rock & roll life in the 70s.
