Just expressing some views from the inside of the buss!
So for the past years Radio PD's have supposedly gotten onto the Band Wagon of the "PPM measuring system" arguing that is the main reason why they only let jocks talk for just a few seconds.. Well in my opinion they ONLY Do this so they won't allow the Good jocks to grow with content in that if they do, they will be creating a new breed of Talent & they will be forced to pay them more money. It's as if the system is designed to make the jocks fail and once they do then they get rid of them saying it was the jocks fault when THE PD was the first to prevent him/her from growing.... Of course to not create new high paying talent... WE ARE NOT STUPID ANYMore.... People are getting Tired of THe Million Dollar sindicated Boring shows like BIg Boy n so on...... Dont pocket all the wealth in bonuses brought on from the so called savings U give ur stations...!!!

Don't worry about it. Anyone with a brain knows the DJ and the things he/she says make the difference between an MP3 player and a radio station.

As a jock, I always preferred having more freedom to talk, but it's not the amount of time, it's what you're allowed to say and how much leeway you're given in how to say it. If there's only time for the name of the station and the slogan most of the time, that's not valuable content to the listener. If the jock can do whatever he's supposed to do in a creative way, everybody wins.

I'm not so sure you're wrong about the scheme to sublimate the talent, though. I've seen more than one situation where all the focus was on one daypart and if another started growing, the talent was suddenly reined in. Seems crazy, but radio's kind of crazy.
