I couldn't get past the subheading. What is it with the LA Times (and similar papers) and their obsession with the term "shock jock"? Sheesh, I don't even like Leykis, but that term has got to go. It's not that I think it's inaccurate in Tom's case, it's just that to use it in a news story is so...editorializing, I guess is the word. It implies that the host is basically dishonest, that he's faking a personality in order to provoke people. Again, that might be true in Tom's case, but this is supposed to be unbiased journalism. Besides, they like to use the term for other hosts (ahem, John and Ken) where the label isn't entirely fair.

The whole article to me seemed like a joke. It made it seem like this was the first podcast ever done. Sure they mentioned Carolla but what is Tom doing different?
I find it too difficult to find the "app" and I don't always have a free wireless signal. Never tried it using my minutes.
I wonder how much of his rosy financial projections counts on selling a whole lot of those $100 a year subscriptions? I just don't think that model is going to work at all: for that kind of money people want to have access to dozens if not hundreds of entertainment streams, ala Netflix, Sirius/XM, etc.

The difference, as was mentioned in the article, is that Tom STREAMS his show live at 3p every day. That means he hosts a live radio show where he can take calls and callers can comment, real time, on what is transpiring during the show (again, this was mentioned in the article). Heidi and Frank do a similar thing with their show.
