LaBabbler on 106.5 WNKR

Hear Jim LaBarbara on WNKR this afternoon? The regular afternoon guy is covering the morning show. The professor is limping his way though music it sounds like he's never heard, reading from the Electric Weenee and Joel Whitburn's Country Hits book.

I'd rather hear him fake his way through talk than hang on this cross.

That's the most pathetic thing I've ever heard.

Jim, it's better to burn out than to fade away...but this is just embarrassing.

The folks that own/run that station, Jeff and Laura, were sales reps at GRR while LaBarbara was there so I'm guessing thats how he made his way down to Williamstown, Ky at WNKR. I'd have to agree, Punch and Arbitorn. Hang it up Prof and save yourself some dignity.

Sorry guys, but I absolutely disagree. If Prof wants to keep doing what he loves, who is anybody to tell him he can't? I don't think it's embarassing or shameful at all. How may of us lost a gig and then went to a format we weren't very familiar with? I know I did, and I'm sure at first it was awful, but I wanted to do it and made it work.

Prof's a good guy. Let him have fun.

I doubt it was nothing more than fill in anyway. The station is jockless on weekends and middays...Nothing more than a jukebox. I thought Labarbra sounded pretty good today when I listened.

You must not know Jeff and Laura. There is no dignity there. Look up pond scum in the dictionary..you might see their picture.

I'm not acquainted with Laura but Jeff is a good guy and so is the Prof. If they want to work together I say DO IT! Prof left WGRR near the top of the ratings heap and will bring some attention to Jeff's station. There's absolutely no downside here for either of them. The only downside is for the hate-mongers who love to wallow in other people's problems. This board needs more people who have positive things to say than negative.

How true. I realize this is a place to vent and I've done my share in the past as well. But the spate of overly negative, gossipy, cynical, and sarcastic posts of late makes for some pretty unproductive reading. For more insight into the sniping that goes on in this business, try reading Kieswetter's blog. Sheesh. Glad I got out many long years ago. It's not even a fun hobby anymore.

Ziesman is ok....he does know this market and talent. And you gotta love his fine announcing skills for BDI/Hobieka spots (when Joe Nuxhall isn't voicing them).
