Labor Day "goodies" on DFW radio

bucwhyl

97.9 The Beat: "Caliente Mixmaster Weekend"
98.7 KLUV: "The History of Rock & Roll"
Casa 106.7: "Labor Day Mix Weekend"
MOViN' 107-5: "The Best of The Burn"

Did I miss anybody?.....

I don't know but did you catch that "Caliente Weekend". Reminded me of the great nights of the "Thunderstorm" except with much better tunes and scratching.

I just don't know how I missed out on KBFB, Casa and Movin'. What a party THOSE must have been. ::) Does the term "Caliente" signify a change in intended demo for Beat? They sure need to do SOMETHING to pull some listeners back in.

KLUV's thousandth playing of "History of Rock and Roll" may need to be laid aside for a while. I remember first hearing it on there on Memorial Day, 1989, then it seemed to vanish thereafter. I even wrote Chuck about it years and years ago, to no avail. Now it seems to pop up every other holiday. Great way to save $15 an hour on a jock for 3 days, but its novelty is wearing off some. I had it on earlier this afternoon, but not tonight...so I don't know if it's going to end the "Rock-n-Roll Timesweep" at February, 1981, or if KLUV has the "new" version that extends it to 1988. (Somehow, I just don't think KLUV is ready for Rick Astley yet.) It's a little amusing that, without the perspective gained from MANY years passing, that disco is given so much attention on such a program.

You did miss it. All three of them were a refreshing change compared to Memorial Day when they basically did nothing. I was even impressed with MOViN'. Even though they were pre-recorded mixes, they sounded pretty good.

And oh how do I miss "The Thunderstorm" on 100.3 Jamz, (R.I.P.)

I'll give ya that...sorry for the sarcasm. I too miss The Thunderstorm, the Quiet Storm, Under the Covers (with Gato Barbieri's "Europa" as the theme) and the rest. Wow, whatever became of EZ Street, Jennifer Pebbles Mary, MC Jammer, Al B. Bad, Sammi G and the others? I know you can hear Terri Weber doing weekend AM traffic on WBAP (as Diana deLaGarza.)

Ez Street is in DC at one of the urbans there...i cant remember if its WHUR or WPGC...

MC Jammer AKA Kevan Browning is doing production at ABC Radio Networks...

Ubi (nee Al B. Bad) is probably pumping gas somewhere ( :D) but EZ is still keeping it real on WKYS and ironic that Russ Parr is doing the morning show there (albeit via syndication, but still a nice respite down memory lane for those of us in the Jamz days). I bumped into Kevin Smoking B a few months ago. He completely digs ABC and who brought him there... the great Keith Solis. I think Thomas Bacote is still shilling for Radio One in Hot-lanta.

Terri/Diana probably still refuses to wear shoes thus creating another kind of traffic in the studio.

Pebbles and Sammi seemed to have beamed up to the Enterprise. Wish I knew where they were.

And since we are on this Jamz reunion, whatever happened with DJ Smoove (with the "VE"), Tom Casey (heard he was in South Dakota but had to be another same name) and Howard Toole? Last I heard from him, he was synching up with Disney radio.

The EZ Street that was on 100.3 Jamz, (R.I.P.) is actually G.Q. Riley who was Shreveport on one of the stations there last I heard. The EZ Street in DC is a different person.

Ken Bell is on 94.5 K-Soul as well as The Touch.

Al B. Bad, a/k/a U. B. was down south on a station. I think it was 97.9 Jamz in Montgomery, Al..

Now VDV, if you really listened to 97.9 this past weekend, you would have heard DJ Smoove in the mix. He is a mixer for The Beat.

Buc, I'm sorry brother, but EZ Street (the same from Jamz, the same I talked to last month) is at WKYS. Check out the page (http://www.939wkys.com/home.asp). There is a banner on the home page with him and Russ together.

I "really" did listen to BEAT, although not apparently glued to the tuner. You know, family and all. Sorry for the mishap. ???

Ken Bell at KSOUL? Need to reach out. Thanks for the update.

103.7 lite fm did "It Came From The 80s" where we featured 80s songs and things that happened from specific years in the 80s. I miss the 80s. :'(

$15 an hour is the rate for a traffic reporter. KLUV's jocks make more.

But you are right about running "The History of Rock and Roll" into the ground.

Yeah, the 80s were great. Well, except for Keds and Parachute pants. Geesh.

Heck, Bass you were saying KEOM needs to move on... maybe the answer is the next decade? I smell a winner. :D

Somewhere around here, I have a Rubik's Cube ;D

Sheesh, I make considerably more than that! (I really do!) I know the Oasis no-namers were making $15 an hour, and I think it was the same deal for KVIL. That's current as of maybe a year ago, so I would guess it'd be even LESS now. I don't know why KLUV would be any different, but you never know.

As KVIL once said in a jingle (with my little update): "It's a shame what's happened to radio/But they can't WON'T afford to do it anymore..."

You can't touch this!

Trust me. Even when I was DJ'ing in the clubs, no did. Those damn pants.
