lack of formats in Houston

It would be so great to see Christian Radio Stations KHCB & KSBJ swap frequencies, with Humble-based KSBJ getting the strong, powerful 105.7 & KHCB would go to 89.3, because CCM works better at 105.7.

What's in it for KHCB?

KHCB is primarily a religious station, and it is part of its own radio network. It broadcasts mostly preachers and it also plays music-but it steers away from CCM.

The last time I listened to them, they were openly hostile to CCM. So I doubt they would cooperate with a station that plays praise and worship (but calls it CCM). Of more interest to me is the hope that KSBJ might someday find a second Houston frequency for their HD-2 NGEN format. WPOZ Orlando - true CCM and #1 in their market - is currently looking for a second frequency for their Christian hip-hop HD-2. They may actually use one of their translators for it. Since I can get KSBJ on 6 frequencies, it is not like they are hurting for frequencies, so hopefully they will follow the lead of WPOZ and put something on the air for young people instead of burying it on HD-2.

, and big old format holes!

Oldies is the obvious one - oldies (OK, call it classic hits but we know what it is) #1 in San Antonio, always in the top 5 in Dallas, LA, top 10 in NY, Chicago, etc. How is Houston so different from San Antonio and Dallas that we wouldn't support oldies? Sure, the ratings for the station we had sucked, but that was more their playlist than the format. Done right with a good playlist, it would succeed here just as it does in other markets. Austin's 98.9 is switching from talk to oldies - and I'll swing an antenna that direction and see if I can dig them out of KODA's HD sideband hash. Who knows, it might be easier to get than 92.5 out of Beaumont, 860 San Antonio which is almost destroyed by that trash on 850, and KVNS which is very weak in the summer time, and fights with sports trash out of Dallas the rest of the time. So much for oldies in Houston, I leave the radio off in cars that don't have satellite. Too much aggravation with distant signals, or with suckish formats locally. 1490 is a good oldies station, but very weak in Houston. I recommend it. A teenage girl in Huntsville told me about it. Kids are discovering oldies and loving them - thanks to Glee.

I do Find It Interesting Houston Has Nothing To Do with Oldies.
Dallas is littered with them

AM: 770 KAAM | 1400 KGVL | 1500 KJIM | 1580 KGAF | 1650 KQRO
FM: 88.5 KEOM | 98.7 KLUV

Of all those 1400 is the best of the bunch, 770 being the worst.

Spoken from a true "litterbug"... ;) ::)

KLDE would have been good if they just would have added to the playlist and programmed it correctly towards the end of its time. Thats Cox radio though. This is me dreaming but id love to see them exit the market. :D And have some other company come in and buy there cluster like Citadel or something just anything but Cox.

Getting NGEN on a Houston translator would be pretty sweet. College Station and Brenham shouldn't have all the fun.

KSBJ does have the 99.5 translator in Sugar Land. Nothing stopping them from using that for NGEN.
