Lack of Smooth jazz in Toledo Ohio

A format we lack here in the glass city. It was tried once on 97.3fm when it was known as Jazzy 97.3, this was around 94-95. The calls are still WJZE but the station has an Urban format now and before was classic hits,a simulcast, and classic rock.

The Urban type stations in this town seem to thrive: 107.3,97.3,95.7. 95.7 is getting 5 shares. It seems to me theres room for something between 101.5 The river and Mix 95.7. The only option we have is V98.7 out of Detroit, which comes in so-so. It pulls about a 0.7 share despite its poor signal coverage in Toledo. Theres also Jazz brunch on 101.5 but thats only on Sunday mornings. heck, I'd even take it on the AM like Cinci has it.

Or better yet, ditch terrestrial radio and take the XM or Sirius plunge. If you are passionate about the music you will be glad you did. For 3 years I have not had to worry if the format was going to be there the next day.

BTW I went with XM

Of course, IN three years XM (or Sirius...or both) might be GONE! ($$ issues forcing them to attempt to join forces, which is well on its way to NOT happening.)

I do not think satellite radio will be gone. My point is, it is where the contemporary jazz format will consistantly be found. No one is going to abandon the delivery method given the fact that folks are willing to pay for music. They said the same about cable TV well over 20 years ago. They may refine it, like all good business would. If they merge, I only hope Watercolors survives over the Sirius contemporary jazz choice.

?

I didn't say a thing about whether people were willing to pay for it. Cable TV is not analogous to my post.

So I guess my question is, where is it going to go?
