Re: Ladies and gentlemen....The Billboard Radio Monitor Dance Radio Airplay recap for 2005!

i disagree w/ that list. Yes, i like 99% of it, but
still disagree w/ it 'being' a dance-list for 2005.

No, it isn't the "euro 90s" -anymore-when any thing made the
list; but streetfrog/or crazyFrog( i have heard it called
both)....either way, they didnt make any of the lists..but,
( i luv the this group, but) the Killers[+] made it...hmm ?

[+] That material is 2004!!! / sorry billboard but the "Killers"
are not a 2005 chart-topper.

Another example..p'cat dolls; either one of these: Reina/Ciara,
or Destiny's child..are not exactly the match for the genre..
Now, i understand, there isnt a "amber" successful/new
release, or a year like '99 - when ::: alice dj, eiffiel#65,
atb, etc..etc were well representing the catergory, but
mariah carey 0r Gwen Stefani Featuring Eve, "Rich Girl"
are a bit of a stretch...not to mention, the gorillaz,
kelly osborne, and Kelly Clarskson (again, I enjoy this music)
but..these watered down 'hits' take away from some of the
year (2005)'s -REAL GEMS- !! : )

Thanks, to this list, I -NOW- remembered:

Stonebridge Featuring Therese, "Put 'Em High"
Dj Sammy "Why"
IanVan DahL "Inspiration" [*]

[*]although, that one was either a late 2004 entry; and hit in 2005,
or very early in the year..i do recall hearing it, but not
as much as it deserved.

..Sadly,
it took this list, to make me say "oh yea, that was an
awesome DANCE Song!!" from 2005, meanwhile, some of the other
selected artists and songs ( mentioned above and on the list)
were easily remembered as 2005 hits, but NOT in the dance catergory.
And, it is those songs, that take away from what the best genre
of music has to offer. Yes, I Understand: there wasnt a wicked
amount of music, where a "top 250" was made, and it then became
a top 100...i admit, a true top 100 would be tough to compile,
in 2005. But, it is billboard's responsibility to do so, not
just click and paste a "mix of everything" for dance music.

I know, "anything" can be dance to anybody..there is "country" then
there is "Country Gold" / rap music(street cred. gangsta vs. will smith /
just as global-tribal chants can be 'dance' versus a steady 10 minute techno bass line, but i think we all agree (here) the
radio friendly hits on this list are :

1. mislabeled. (ie: The Black Eyed Peas )
2. "off" (either songs off the charts; off the mark)..what ever, fans here
please compile a "true" 2005 list that should have printed in billboard..
in a reply. this may lead to another thread, are there still a 100
songs..in 2004, 2005, 2006 that accurately be 'reppin' the dance format ?

This Dj Hopes NOT...

Also, this doesnt mean, iF you signed on a station tomorrow,
..your playlist includes: bks, The Black Eyed Peas,
dirty vegas, technotronic, mariah carey, stonebridge feat.therese, manilli vanilli, lasgo, daft punk, angelCity..etc.etc.. this wouldn't discredit
your Station, as a dance station however, this billboard chart
'claims' to be the dance-"hits" of 2005...hmmm ?

any thoughts.
-Again- I enjoy just about every song on the list. that is NOT the
context, focus or point of this thread/post..i just want
to bring it to the attention of every one, instead of read,click..
read,click...

Re: Ladies and gentlemen....The Billboard Radio Monitor Dance Radio Airplay recap for 2005!

No, this list "claims", and is, a compiling of the biggest dance songs from the stations that Billboard has reporting to it's dance airplay charts.

Nothing more, nothing less.

There is no editorial decisions made by Billboard as to what the biggest "dance" songs of the year were. They add up the numbers and that's the results.

I would like to add that Robbins was the #1 Dance Airplay Imprint label. :)

Not to mention having the #1 Dance Airplay single with DHT's "Listen To Your Heart".

BTW I enjoyed listening to all those 50 songs, so I see no problem with this year-end chart.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen....The Billboard Radio Monitor Dance Radio Airplay recap for 2005!

Thanks guys.

We have our fingers crossed that Cascada carries over the Holiday break so we can start the new year right. :)

Re: Ladies and gentlemen....The Billboard Radio Monitor Dance Radio Airplay recap for 2005!

Amen wired! I too thought 2004 when I saw this list...

The Billboard Radio Monitor Dance Radio Airplay recap for 2005!

i TOTALLY have NO Problem with DHT : ) that
is a Excellent Cover, earning top bill !! to
show that 'dance' music isnt a novelity niche format !!

Also, i enjoy some the other songs on there too..
but, it just doesn't seem that the list is well-represented
for being a Dance-Radio Airplay recap for '05.

*NOW*
I am not saying that it is Billboard's 'fault' for
"copying and pasting" what they are told to print;
*MAYBE* it is the stations, providing this "Inaccurate"
list to report. ?? hmm....
OR, just the pool of top 100 isnt there like it was,
heck even five years ago...i just find it frustrating
when "killers" an OBVIOUS Rock-band (again, which i enjoy)
and most likely, "kayne west" (WHICH I DONT LIKE)contributes
to the charts that respectively should be "dominated" by
the new daft punk hit, new chemical brothers, future
bassment jaxx songs, and other new groups..yet to
be discovered in the new year : ) (can u say, the "next DHT" ).

PS: Again, Kudos..to DHT : ) !!! !!!

Absolutely not. A third-party organization (Nielson/BDS) monitors each station and provides Billboard with the spin numbers. It's quite accurate.

I think you are misunderstanding the chart. The dance radio chart is the top tracks played by dance-intensive radio stations across the USA. Not the top dance songs played on radio.

If a dance intensive station is monitored by BDS, and Whitesnake is the third most played artist on that station, Whitesnake will be reflected as the 3rd most played "in dance" in that market.

And, by the way, The Killers chose to have dance mixes in addition to their electronica-infused originals.

Re: The Billboard Radio Monitor Dance Radio Airplay recap for 2005!

I just think you might not be getting how they determine the list they printed. They monitor, the stations feed via computer, and simply add up the number of spins. It's the same chart that Billboard prints up every week. This one is just the total of the 52 weeks which runs from Nov. to Nov.

If the Basement Jacks or LCD Soundsystem dominated at the Dance Radio stations, they would have printed it. Fact is, most stations that are dance in America aren't really playing that style of music. But that something for another thread.

i totally get it / just think it sucks.

>If a dance intensive station is monitored by BDS, and

> dance" in that market.

Same goes for a soft and hot AC playing a cross over hits, from
the country format..such as tim mcgraw's megaHit,
from November -to-November, i get it - i just dont agree with it...
doesnt mean your work station hasn't "gone country", it is just
that one song...*BUT* to use your example, if -whitesnake- was
being played then the "dance" stations aren't doing their part
as well as they should be ; they should better identify and image US-dance
stations more creatively and follow suit w/ the music playlist.
Also, some thing should be taken into account..for speciality
and mix shows that aire out the weekend broadcasts.

PS:
I Love that Killers remix..it fairs well on alot of different formats.
edge.ca (rock) literally "spins" it [still]during weekend L-2-aire's.

Although, they did REFUSE a later HIT not to be remixed, am i
correct ? or mistaken.
